When I was a kid, I would walk on the steel grates in the city sidewalks, you know the ones I am talking about, various shapes and sizes

Army corps of Engineers is gearing up to replace two bridges over the Cape Cod Canal, the Bourne and Sagamore.

The current bridges are two Art Deco behemoths.

I always marvel at the date plaque on them

Two years! Two fucking years and they had that marvel up with less technology than we have today.

Unsure what they cost when the WPA built them but new "estimates" are over 1 Billion dollars to redo them.

They will be working on those fuckers for the next twenty years.

Probably kill the Cape tourism industry, probably why they are doing it. Cant have the plebes enjoying the beauty the rich can helo to.

A few years back I was watching them mix cement for a high rise apt building near the beach in Mexico. They were trucking the sand for the concrete in directly from the beach. Any idea what salt (beach sand is just full of it) does to concrete...not to mention there was no rebar used.

I made sure to stay in one story buildings.

Me to! Pisses me off cause you have to be an expert at everything these days! Long gone are the days you could pay an honest fee and get an honest days work out of an honest person, it would seem. I think they are still out there but are getting to be fewer and fewer every day!

"I cant" or "We cant" seems to be the current state of being.

Where has the innovation and entrepreneurship gone?

Crap when is the last time you saw an original movie? Not a reboot or number 5 in the sequel series.

My wife had some drama show on the other night and it was all just current agenda political crap - no imagination or novel story.

Seems like anyone that wants to follow a dream gets regulated out of chasing it or saddled with crap that makes it unachievable.

Its got to stop.

Yes, that’s how it starts. They breed this kind of mentality, then push that the gov has the answers and will do it all for you and before you know it full socialism has taken effect and nobody wants to work or have a genuine idea anymore, then eventually that falls into something else that’s worse and the downfall of many great nations...you get the idea.

I agree with all of the above.

Now, I don't think that means that it will turn us into a third world nation. I think we are more heading down the path of the Western European countries - high regulation, high taxes, lots of government interference.

I feel like the majority of the general populace forgot exactly why this country was established in the way that it was - to gain sovereignty from an oppressive government. Now we are heading towards exactly what we originally intended to escape from.

And don't get me started on Hollywood.

there is no way the us is becoming 3rd world country those people are not whinny , crying , spoiled or self indulged . they work to live , fight for every scrap of anything they have . they die and live hard collage kids are spoiled brats not many of them have to work to put them self through school or fight for a seat while in school they have safe spaces and feeling puppies . so no the us in not turning in to a 3rd world anything , first world pansy pot maybe snowflake heaven possibly overly sensitive my feeling this and that definitely for god sakes men wear dresses in this country anywhere else they would be shot on sight or worse .
