Another spotting scope question

Shooting metal with my 6.5x47L, I am having trouble seeing my "hits" at 1000 yards. Not knocking off enough paint to see where I am at so to speak. I shoot just for fun, off a bench mostly.

I am thinking about a spotting scope for the sole purpose of being able to see the 1k mark. After a few days shopping online there is a ton of options, and very overwhelming. Not wanting to break the bank, what is a good option for helping me see the steel at 1k.

What rifle scope do you use? I can see hits through my scope, usually. But beyond that, you should also be able to hear the impact if you're shooting steel...

I have a Nightforce ATACR 5-25

I can not hear the impact at that distance

I have more luck using my ATACR vs my spotting scope. It is a Zen Ray 20-60 x 82 angled. I have a Vortex Mil eyepiece and is great at 500 yds. I have also utilized a Swarovski ATX 30-70×95. It was pretty good at 1000 yards. [h=1][/h]

I'm taking your inquiry to mean that after you have shot, you wish to look at the target to see hits (verses someone spotting for you, seeing your hits as you shoot.) If that is the case, my experience is that you'll need 60X or more and conditions with low mirage to be able to see those type of results at 1000 yds. unless you're shooting a caliber that's knocking off big chunks of paint.. Really, a remote camera will give you much better results. Just one opinion..............YMMV.

Read my Athlon Ares review a couple posts down. My neighbor is a 6.5 Creed shooter and I can see some of his hits out to 1200. Not as easily as a .30 cal however.

Yes I ment after I have shot. Thanks for that input. My 6.5 is just not knocking off enough paint to see.
