I stopped by my favorite shotgun/rifle store a couple of weeks ago to pick up my shotgun and my sales guy/all around good dude showed me something they had just got in - the new Anschutz 1727F straight pull action 17 hmr. I didn't think I was in the market for 17 hmr but that thing was sweet. It uses and Forthner action and was a real beauty. The only thing was the MSRP (3495) had me thinking I might rather have a Wilson Combat 1911 or a Surgeon JAE or an AIAX.

But I do have a soft spot for high quality production oriented engineering (where things are designed and can be manufactured to incredible tolerances). Which is why Blaser and the new Merkel Helix, also straight actions, are on my (long) wishlist.

Anyone have any thoughts on the Forthner action or this particular rifle? And whether it makes sense from a target shooting standpoint to add 17 her when I have (incoming) an Annie 1710?
