I'm an old man new to this forum. I have been a hunter all my life and was just recently introduced to "long-range shooting". I am fascinated by it and this forum has convinced me that it takes a lot more than just equipment to become a good marksman. I have a 6.5mm Creedmore being built and it should be ready in 6 months. I would like to get started practicing ASAP and, based on what I've read here, it sounds like a .22 set up in a platform similar to the rifle I am getting would help me in finding my NPOA and in my trigger manipulation. I have been looking at an Anshutz 64 MP-R. I can't seem to find much on this forum about this gun. Does anyone have any thoughts on this gun or any other suggestions for me?

I got 2 of them, one in 22lr and one ine 17HMR. They are both tack drivers. Very smooth action. Only downside to them is they are on the heavy side. If you are just going to be shooting them off a bipod or bench you will be fine. If you want to shoot off hand or take it hunting they are too heavy for that. The Anschutz mags are expensive but you can get the Savage mags that are the same for about $12-$15 each.

I don't have much info on the 64 action since I have very limited experience with that platform. If you had questions about the 54 action then I could answer those questions. There are some people here that can help you with your anschutz here but really this website is dedicated to tactical precision shooting. If you had questions about your 6.5 creedmore high power rifle then this sight and its members may be able to help you. If you want questions answered about your anschutz rifle selection I would suggest 2 other forums dedicated to smallbore rifle and pistol shooting: http://www.rimfirecentral.com and http://www.targettalk.org
There are a lot more knowledgeable people there to answer your anschutz questions.

The Annie MPR-64 was made (Maybe still) in a LH version. I have one. I gave $700.00 used for mine and put a Muller 8x28 scope on it for my 10 year old son. Great gun, As others have said a little heavy but works fine off bipod or baggs. The only gripe I have is the mag release is hard to get mags out.. They shoot fine for what they are.

The MPR has been made in LH, don't know anyone that owns one. The MPR has become quite popular at our 22TSC match in Conover NC.There are at least 5 competitors running one. I do not own one but have had my hands on several. They are heavy for a 22 but if you are trying to imitate a centerfire tactical rifle, that is the point. At least I thought it was the point. The MPR weighs 9lbs without glass. I see guys shooting them in the standing stage every month. The weight is not a problem.

First off, Welcome to the Hide. Regarding the MPR64, I've got one. Wish I had a lefty version but I don't. I bought mine from a buddy who wanted to move to the 64 Biathlon, same action different barrel and stock. I saw a lefty version of the that version a Canadian over on rimfirecentral owns.
I love this rifle. I've shot it prone and offhand(lucky shots) to 225 yards at some steel I've got for .22 It's a very accurate gun, great stock and the trigger is one of the best I've felt. Also, just working the bolt is one of those rewarding mechanical interactions, like working a Winchester 94 lever or the Hurst Shifter I put in my Z06 Vette. You won't be sorry with the MPR.

The 64 MPR is an excellent rifle. The trigger, bolt action, stock and balance are better than any of the factory rim fires I've owned. It is a superb training tool. The only down side I can think of is the mag release is not as good as most others I've owned. Best wishes
