Hunting & Fishing Antelope Cartridge

Got mine with a 6.5 CM and a 140 VLD hunting bullet.
Its my favorite because I have it and a .308 and the 6.5mm is a lot more pleasant to shoot because of the reduced recoil. Used it on a Mule deer this year also, worked.

I’ve taken dozens of antelope with a 22-250, a half dozen or more with a 6.5 cm, and 1 with a 7RM (only rifle I had at the time). Everyone did just fine IMO, but that 22-250 has a special place in my heart, haha.

I think a 16” or 18” 6.5 PRC dedicated antelope gun sounds pretty sweet though?

I'm a huge fan of 7mm-08 for everything from antelope to elk and bear. I built a 7 SAW just for fun and to see if I could get the heavies going a little faster. But my choice would be 7mm-08 for just about everything. The sectional density and energy on target of 7mm bullets in my opinion is one of the best choices for hunting in general.

Just whatever I normally would use on deer. I don’t shoot prongs while their moving so fast bullets are not a special requirement, especially since most bullets are going faster than the speed of sound.

On plains and open vast open fields ive used 7mm-08 to a .300 win mag and in between. .308 works, 7mm mag is a good one. The real hunting with prongs is done with a bow. That’s when things get real.

Sure you could choose one of the many cartridges listed above, the same ones our Grandfathers used, .243's, 257 Roberts, etc. Or you could use these new 6.5CM that everybody is talking about, or you could go full retard and shoot some belted bastard that could damn near put an antelope in orbit. But If you really wanna be cool, and cut the wind with scorching BC's, or even if you just need an excuse to build a new rifle, You should go with a 25 Creedmoor.

Load it with the 131 Ace from Blackjack, and you'll dance right past all the 6's, 6.5's and especially those old 10+ twisted 25-06 and Bobs.

I'm coldboremiracle, and I approve of this message.
