I am headed up to Antelope county NE at the end of next week for a week of bowhunting on some private land. I have been reading that EHD has hit Nebraska pretty hard this year and I was wondering if anyone lived or worked around Antelope county and could give me a good first had account of what to expect. Some things I read says it has been horrible, other things say it has had little effect.
Thanks!

Re: Antelope county Nebraska hunt

I hunt on my famliy farm two counties south of Antelope county. I can tell you around my family farm it has been hit and miss. Some farms have been hit hard but the next farm over is just fine. I have been busy with work and going to school so this summer I didn't put cameras out. One of my friends back home has had the same bucks on camera since august. But another friend has lost several good bucks to EHD. Sorry not much help. I would say go up there expecting the best.

Thanks D squared. I appreciate the info. I really don't know what to expect. The land owner is not a hunter so he just goes by what he sees from the road and stories everyone else tells him. I guess I will cross my fingers and hope for the best. It is 18 hours each way from here so I will have plenty of time to think about it!

Take care

Re: Antelope county Nebraska hunt

I would say the highest percentage of the dead deer (due to EHD) found on the eastern half of Nebraska were found along the Missouri River.

Good Luck with your hunt....

Re: Antelope county Nebraska hunt

That is really good to know. We are a good distance from the river so maybe that will save us. We have seen some really good bucks the last few years and taken a couple in the 150 inch range. Thanks for your help!

Re: Antelope county Nebraska hunt

Where we hunt in the central part of Nebraska the deer have been killed out completely. We are hoping that the rut will bring in deer from unaffected areas. It sucks because I have already bought my tag and there is no way to get a refund.
