Rifle Scopes Anti cant level question

I am looking to pick an anti cant level to put on my .308 ar.

I have picked out this model from midway usa:

Does anyone have any experience with this level? I have been reading to stay away from the vortex model, but I don't want to break the bank so I found this one.

Any input is helpful.

Never used that model but, I wouldn't want one that has the bubble on top of the tube. It should be on the left side so its in your line of sight with a proper cheek weld and both eyes open. Search the Hollands level. Around $50.

I was thinking the off set version was probably a little easier to use. I'll take a look at the holland.

I have one that takes the place of the scope ring and have no problem seeing it, but i also shoot both eyes open. Get behind your rifle and see if it could more than likely work for you. As for that specific model, I have no experience with it.

I have that exact model. Because the bubble sits on top, you can't see it without lifting your head...not so good. I replaced it with one from US Optics (link below). There have been some recent threads with complaints regarding this USO level about the bubble not being centered when the rail was level, but I did not have this issue. It has worked great for me, and although a little pricey compared to the one you asked about, I am very satisfied with the performance of the USO.

I have the Hollands as well. It works just fine.

Havent had my Vortex bubble long, but it seems to work. Plus you can see it from your weld.

I have a "clamp onto the tube" type. I have mine positioned in front of my rear ring, and it doesn't bother me at all. I like that it can be leveled independantly of the ring, and from your base, which aren't necessarily level to begin with.

My vortex works perfectly. I don't have to lift my head. It's offset and mounted towards the front of the scope. My nonfocusing eye pics it up and I can level while looking at the crosshairs.

The Vortex looked to have sharper edges and a not so great finish, I went with the scope mounted Holland. It showed up last week and is very nice. Finish is tough and has nice rounded edges.

I have used the Vortex one since July and I have no complaints. I do like the offset to the left as you can see it without having to move from behind the scope. The Holland does look like it has better edges and finish though....

That's what I have on one of mine. I'm not a fan of the single line on the level, I'm used to putting the bubble between the lines, not splitting it-but it works fine. People also question the Horus' toughness, being plastic, but I ran mine over with a small SUV (attached to a soft cased rifle) and just the mounting ring broke, it still lives on on another rifle.


I like the Holland-esp the little hole to string your dope too!

If I were doing it all over (and I am as time/money allows), all my USO scopes will have their internal ACD's. I have one now and love it.

I have the vortex on two rifles and I like it. I can see the bubble with my other eye while looking through the scope. I would buy another.

I have a the US Optics version that mounts on the Picitinny rail and swivels out the way when your done.

Several have mentioned they use the U.S. Optics device as do myself.

I have always questioned those devices that mount to the scope. When it can mount in a 360 degree circle, how do you know you have it level?

I trust the manufactures go to great lengths to put the rail mounting holes in the TDC position. I trust my rail builder to get the darn thing square and I trust myself to mount it flush with the top of the receiver.

The U.S. Optics devise bolts to the rail. Not withstanding some of the experiences mentioned here, the dozen or so Cant Indicators I have have been excellent.

I use both the Vortex and the Holland's. The Vortex is <span style="font-style: italic">much</span> heavier, but bottom line, both are superbly constructed. You can not go wrong with either one.

Personally, I am usually looking to add weight to my big kickers, so I often prefer the Vortex.

I have a Horus Vision and my rifle has a 20 MOA Picatinny rail on it. I can not figure out how to mount it and have it "ZERO" to the bore because you can not rotate it where it attaches.

Can someone explain how you can attach it and have it hold "ZERO" when the bore of the rifle is horizontally plumb?

PS:Here is the rifle with the first level (B-Square) on the 20 MOA rail and then the Vortex on the 6-24x50mm PST FFP MOA scope with the Vortex Custom Turret. I used the B-Square to level the action and then the Vortex on the scope to get the vertical reticule perfectly up and down. I will remove the B-Square when I am confident that the scope will track up and down correctly. So far it "seems" to be perfect.

I guess I set my bubble up differently. I don't trust that all is going to perfectly drilled or perfectly plumb. It took quite a while to tweak my scope in it's rings and shooting at a 100 yard verticle line on a piece of cardboard and cranking in multiple turns of elevation to get it to track perfectly up the line dead center. Even though you may have mounted everything perfectly "level" until you do that test you really don't know if it's tracking true thrugh it's entire range. It would take small tweaks of turning the scope in the rings and also adjusting the scope mounted bubble until it was right thru the scopes entire verticle range. Even an adjustment so fine you could barely see it move against two lines I had marked would make quite a difference as you redid the tracking test.

Maybe I did mine wrong but I didn't trust levels setting it up but actual shooting and adjusting till each bullet tracked up that line dead center with each full turn of the elevation turret. It may be the wrong way to do it but it seems to work at the distances we shoot so far and I know it will not veer off as I crank in more elevation other than dealing with all the spin drifty thing and coriolis effect stuff that is way beyond me anyway, glad the bullets have those corrections built in. Now all I have to do it glance up at that bubble and if it's centered then I know I'm good to go.

Anyone know if there is enough material in the Holland 34mm level to allow it to be honed out to 35mm?

I have 3 3-18 35mm tube IOR scopes. Either the Holland or Vortex would function as required-- but I prefer the looks & machining quality on the Holland level given the nearly identical price point.

I'll probably end up ordering the Vortex levels for my IOR scopes but I figured I'd ask...

I have both versions of the USO - the 3 fixed models I have all checked out as true level.

The swing out model needs to be perfectly perpendicular for mine to be level - it can swing out past perpendicular to the stop where it is then out of level.

As Pat said, the difference will be lost in the noise.

The Horus is the wrong color on its level though, it will clash with the two other levels you already have mounted.
