Any Chrono Recommendations?

I've looked high and low for info on Chronos on here and have only seen a post about a magnetoscope(sp?), so sorry if this is somewhere else, but I couldn't find it. I've been reading the reviews on all of the chronos on Midway and each of them seems to have a solid number of bogus reviews. Is there one that anyone has been using for some time that has been reliable for the $$? Or do they all have a quick expiration date with varying results? Thanks in advance!

Re: Any Chrono Recommendations?

I have a Competition Electronics and a Shooting Chrony F1. The F1 is way more temperamental than the other. The Competition Electronics has been pretty good, sensitive and reliable for me so far, my only complaint is that it is built like a piece of crap plastic toy from China. I wish it came in the solid metal housing the F1 has.

Re: Any Chrono Recommendations?

From what i have seen you cant buy replacement parts for the shooting chrony. So if you happen to shoot a sensor, or have one act up youll have to buy a new chrony or send it in and have it repaired

Re: Any Chrono Recommendations?

I have a CED M2... I have no complaints; but honestly I know no different since its the only one I have used. Works whenever I need it. I have shot everything from bb guns, arrows, and all my rifles. I have only had one time when I had a hard time picking up but it was just due to lighting issues. I have zero complaints though; I love how i can pack it up and goes right into a case for storage and travel. I like the Giant screen, makes it easy to see and use.

Re: Any Chrono Recommendations?

I have a Pact Professional XP and have been very happy with it. Setup is fast and it seems to be very forgiving of the stupid things I've done to it. I bought the IR upgrade so I could use it indoors as well. I haven't tried that yet but if it works like everything else, I'm sure it will be fine too.

. . . and the best. Have had mine since early 90's with no problems.

Re: Any Chrono Recommendations?

There are so many to choose from and you can find mixed reviews on every damn one of them. I finally just picked one and hoped for the best. I bought the Pro Chrony Digital. In all honestly, I didn't know what to expect, but it's been flawless. I've fired over 200 rifle rounds thru it in the last 30-45 days and it's never "errored" one time. I've shot in cloudy skies, sunny skies, early morning, mid day, late afternoon. It's never missed a bullet and apparently it's atleast somewhat accurate because the velocities its given me, when plugged into FTE gives me very accurate dope out to 1000yds.....on 3 different rifles.

Re: Any Chrono Recommendations?

Trevor said it right. Your going to find rewiews on both ends of the spectrum for most units on the market. I shoot (sometimes litteraly) a Chrony Gamma Master. The printer is something akin to a 1980's printer/calculator. The one good thing about the Gamma, and all chronographs with a remote read out is that when you put a bullet through the guts of it, the most expensive component isnt getting shot.

The Chrony can be somewhat tempramental. You just need to know when to use the screens and when to leave them off, and get familiar with the user interface....it will be confusing at first.

Keep in mind that most all units are only accurate to within 1% (thats about 26-28 FPS with most cartridges) anyway.

Re: Any Chrono Recommendations?

I have had two different chronos before I got an Oehler 35P last year. I found it to be a huge step up over any other chrono I have used. It has been super accurate and reliable. I highly recommend you look into them. Also if you get one, get the aluminum frame to mount them that johndoe here on the Hide makes. It makes setup much easier and you can get 4' length.

Re: Any Chrono Recommendations?

I have a Competition Electronics ProChrono Digital. I really like it alot but it will not reliably function early in the morning. It's all in one so if you shoot it, it's over.

My shooting buddy has a PACT Professional XP with printer. I shot over it alot before I got my own. For the most part, it's a good unit. Howver, it's equally unreliable in the early morning. The printer really sucks the batteries and being a thermal printer, it doesn't work well when it's cold. The PACT is modular so a stray round is not fatal.
