I'm considering selling all of my 6.5 Grendel stuff and buying a AR 10 type rifle. I was at a local gun show a couple of months ago and remember seeing and shouldering a RRA LAR 8 Elite Operator:

and also the RRA LAR 8 Standard Operator:

Both seemed like pretty solid rifles. Apparently RRA AR10 type rifles take FAL mags. Anyone have any experience with RRA LAR 8 rifles?

Thanks.

Try running a search using the SH Google Search Engine linked to in my sig line. There have been a couple of threads in recent months on these rifles and except for the extremely proprietary nature of the RRA and the lack of some aftermarket support for them to date, the reviews have been favorable.

Thanks ORD, my search-fu sucked. Used your link and I'm finding a lot of useful info.

Really like mine and they are as accurate as they say they are. My only grip is the number of proprtoetary parts - but that will chnage for the goos in 2011 as more companies will make parts for it.

Highly recomended.

I have a 16" lar-8 and love it. the gun is more accurate than I am, and is a pleasure to shoot. i bought extra rra mags for it, because i dont want to rely on used/pre-abused mags.

a friend of mine has a scoped 20" and easily shoots .75moa @ 100 yards all day long.

the only down side is the proprietary parts. i bought a rra hybrid quad rail for it a few months after i bought the gun, and rra isn't even selling the wrench for it yet! so it sits in my drawer waiting...

Great shooter I have the LAR-8A4 with their hybrid free float hand guard. It will hold .5-.6" with Fed match and my hand loads.

But I agree with pilotguy RR has made it a proprietary type system with the specific bolts, bolt carrier, upper, barrel nut ect. But if you're not a "part nut" and get the rifle you want from RR then I think you'll be very happy. A plus is the FN FAL mags are cheap and easy to find.

I certainly like mine . it is an a4 20 inch . accurate and reliable right out of the box . I have done nothing except add a scope and shoot . I am thinking about putting on ajp tube , but not in any big hurry.

I have an LAR-8 mid length. I have equipped it much like the Elite Operator, plus a Leupy Mk 4 3.5x10, and YHM BUIS. It shoots very well. MOA w/the right ammo.
Great trigger. As others have mentioned it is a little frustrating RRA doesn't sell tools specific to their rifles.
