If you have a costco membership, it's worth getting a quote through the Costco auto program.

lol, that’s why my wife and I bought an Odyssey a few months ago, we’re expecting crotch goblin #3 this summer.
She fought as hard as possible to not get a minivan but at the end of a few intense days of interwebbing we had to face the reality that an Odyssey was going to be the best option
And @Maggot , that was one of the first things I said. We drove a ‘15 Sequoia that was nice. It had decent, but not great, 3rd row access which made it a deal breaker. And even being over 5 model years old it was still really expensive

What truck is still made in America? Besides the Tundra, a Japanese brand.
Honda and Toyota are more made in America these days than most "American brands".
They are so good you can't get them in America, but almost nothing beats a Toyota Hilux for the ultimate end of the world vehicle.

My first new vehicle was an 87 Toyota pick up, most basic model, with the 22 R engine. I drove it for 375,000 miles including a trip to Panama (the country) and it started every time I turned the key. Beat that.
I have a 91 sr5 pickup 3.0. If i had a family and had to get a run around vehicle, i would find a nomad probably... i could fit a medium famil in the 56 belair 2 door. I havent bought a new vehicle since my harley in 2008, never again. I own everything i have outright.
When i moved to pennsylvania i bought a different sr5 pickup for a run around truck. I would go offroading with it. I bought it for 1500 and sold it for 2000 when i moved back to Tx, it had 3 brake lines that had been bent to limp it home from rust... nothing like blowing a brake line in traffic. It also had dropped one of the front cvs right before the dude came and bought it. He didnt even care... he just wanted it that bad.

Not a dealer, but all auto manufacturers have been having problems getting parts. If you have found one you like now, it might be hard to find another.
I would be doubtful on a member that is a dealer being able to (or willing to) give out price information. Manufacturers keep this information to themselves for a reason.

Dinner lady killed her little Ford Escape about 3 years ago now and go one. She got the XLE with AWD option with our lovely rds.
That thing is a beast on ice and snow (with studded Hakkas of course).
I just saw her today and helped her unload an ungodly amount of crap out of the back of it. Her folks also have one.
We looked at them, the honda, a couple nice crossover SUVs and it won out.
4 captains and a split folding rear. Has the roof rack, so it can wear a rocket box for skis in the winter too.
I have had Hondas and Toyotas both and would buy either brand again without hesitation

but the more and more I see new cars and how complex they are, I don't think its possible to buy a new car that works reliably anymore. That statement can be read many ways, I don't mean reliable in the sense that the engine starts, I mean it in a sense that *ALL* included gear and features work as designed. The more shit you add, the more chances something will break

I bought my daughter a Hyundai with the 10 year warranty a few years back. I also bought the 10 year bumper to bumper plan, not just the powertrain warranty it comes with. I am shocked she has not had one issue with it in about 30k miles, but it was a base model without a ton of crap on it. I will probably buy that warranty on any new cars I purchase, and that was the first one I ever bought. New cars scare me....
Neighbor across the street has a huge van. They homeschool their six to eight, kids (hard to count). Doubt a typical van would haul the entire family.
I'm getting as low as 39 over the ph for touring. OTD is around 44. Some dealers are telling me msrp. Not a lot of cars available. Trying to decide if I deal with car crap again today or head to the clays loop. :-D
A few years back, I bought a long-wheelbase GMC conversion van from a guy who had 10 children. His oldest four or five kids had moved out of the house, and his wife was looking forward to going back to a "normal" vehicle (full-size SUV) for the first time in about 15 years.
He was probably taking it to Central America where they bring big $$$. I think thats where mine went. Ive seen convoys of them heading through Mexico.

Have you ever driven a nicer mini van? They are quiet and glass smooth on the highway doing 80+ mph (won't comment on exactly how fast mine has gone)
If you keep the speed down to the speed limit, even my 2007 can get 26 mpg on a long trip. I fairly regularly took 1000 mile trips in my van, even though I hate that I own a mini van, it is a nice vehicle to take long trips in.
I think 39 in today's market is an ok deal. Most dealers are not moving more than 10% on price from what I see. if that.
This is the first time in history you can give your name and phone number to a car salesman and they don't even call and bother you every other day. I am 'just looking' to buy a car for my younger daughter and disappointed in the lack of deals. Most likely going to wait until after I move to get one at this point.
The clays loop sounds like more fun! I am wrapping up things on my house and trying to get it on the market April 30th, after that I will have some time to get back out and shoot.
I have not owned one but agree with you. I just feel that the truck bed gives you a lot more space to deal with family “stuff”.
If they made a 4wd hybrid minivan that could get 40-50mpg I'd be all over it for my next vehicle.

I dont really have a problem with honda they are ok. I have a problem with dealer specific repairs. Thats why newer cars dont appeal to me. And sure you can trade it off just before warranty but then you are just renting a lifetime of debt. I like working on my cars is all, wasnt trying to pee on the parade.

I was just going to post this, I put 4x8 sheets inside mine all the time and shut the door
but mine is just an extra car at this point, my kids are older now and my wife drives a RAV4 full time instead of the van.
man that thing is handy if you don't own a pickup truck.
I can't tell you how many bags of mulch, bails of pine straw, wood, stone, paver stones and retaining wall blocks I have hauled in my van
