how many left handed shooters shoot right handed guns because of the ease of finding aftermarket parts for your rifles or even finding rifles them selves.
i have been shooting right handed guns all my life just for the fact i couldn’t find a left handed one and now that im getting into the f class style of shooting im finding it just as hard to find stuff for my first budget custom build.
id love some input on how to build my first left handed custom build(gun parts etc or even where to get them)..
if you are shooting a south paw gun and have a pic please post it with some details.
any help for this newbie would be greatly appreciated

Re: any lefties?

What kind of rifle are you wanting to build? For example, the only real left handed parts on a Remington M700 are the action (+ trigger) and stock. I'm a lefty and have owned many LH M700s, but always go back to the RH actions due to the increased choice in calibers, rifle styles, etc. LH actions and stocks (like McMillan) aren't that difficult to obtain, and most custom builders will accomodate lefties. It all depends on your budget....

Re: any lefties?

well thats just it every one seems to go back to right handed . i have a right handed savage 12 in 308 i thought about decking out but then didnt know if i should go ahead and buy a left handed rifle for the project or not. just seeing other opinions.

Re: any lefties?

In my opinion, when shooting from a bench with the front of the rifle fully supported, shooting a RH action isn't a hindrance. If you want to go lefty on a custom build, then by all means do it. Total expense shouldn't be that different. Don't succumb to the righties, they're not in their right minds anyway...

Re: any lefties?

For the 1/7th of us that are properly handed it is difficult to find correctly configured rifles.

As such, since I was a little kid I've been shooting my dad's (he's a righty) firearms with no changes. I have owned a lefty bolt action for a few months and then got rid of it because I couldn't get used to the action that easily. The right hand side feels natural to me now.

Thankfully I'm left hand, left eye dominant so it makes no difference when shooting firearms. My fine motor control is left hand dominant as well.

I play all sports right handed though, including archery. This was no end of frustration to my mom and dad when I was little because I had a hard time shooting their bows. I've since learned to shoot right handed bows almost as well as true right handed people.

Re: any lefties?

I just got my first left hand rifle last week (lawton 7000). I have to say that as someone who had shot right hand guns all my life, the adjustment is a little tough to get used to. I shoot a lot of single shot, single feed drills and I'm used to having the port on the same side as me. I'm sure it will become comfortable, but right now it feels pretty weird.

Me lefty..

As some have pointed out if you are just going to be shooting prone in F-Class all the time a RH gun won't cause any issues. However if you shoot tac style matches where position comes into play then build yourself a lefty.

Best LH action I own is a Borden Alpine. Jim Borden's actions are just works of art. He is a great guy that stands behind his product as well. Almost all the lefties out here roll his actions.

Stock: McMillan of course.

Re: any lefties?

Rifles and bows I shoot right handed, pistols left. Never had any problems until the
eyes started going, now my left eye takes over when shot gunning. I have to remember to close it at some point during the swing.

Re: any lefties?

left hand the hard way. Lost right eye at 14, had master smallbore card right handed, switched over to left hand and got another master smallbore card.
Now I have a high master high power card. I have lots of righties and two left hand center fire and two left hand BSA MKIII smallbore rifles.
Next buy for me will be a LH Tikka T3 Varmint in 30.06. The biggest problem for me has been left hand sights for bolt guns but I am still shooting Mod 70s in highpower reaching over with Central rear sights.
I agree left hand bolt feel spastic.

Re: any lefties?

Vu mentioned shooting in matches and how a LH bolt would be better for positional shooting. I have to disagree some. I have had the advantage sometimes by being LH and running a RH gun. Rapid fire is easy in time shots. But I also train myself to shoot LH and RH withLH being my most dominate side. Just my .02 cents.

Re: any lefties?

I am dominantly a L/H shooter having been shooting R/H rifles for many years. I have trained myself through the years to be able to shoot as proficiently R/H as I do L/H. Having trained myself to do this has solved my multiple-shot offhand shooting position problems that I used to have shooting a wrong-handed rifle. I have never owned, shot, cycled, or even held a L/H weapon in my life.

Re: any lefties?

I have been RH all my life, have known I was left eye dominant for quite a while. I have RH guns, and tried LH shooting for the first time here recently, have improved on my groups. It looks like I will shoot RH guns LH from the availability look at the market.

Re: any lefties?

Jeffs.... Now if you are going to start shooting from the wrong side, you can return the Beretta shotgun, the AR-15, the Walther PPK, the Kimber 1911.... Now that I think about it, you have half my arsenel.

So the real question is... Are you going to do your first custom build using a lefty or right handed action?

Re: any lefties?

won't be going back to right side bolts any time soon thats for sure.
