I just wanted to see if anyone had any new info on the newer model TRS-1 scopes after they've been out for a while. I've searched a ton of articles and posts about my optic choice and haven't come across any with much time or rounds through the newer versions of the scope.
This is going on a Rem SPS Varmint in .308 that will be a dual Tactical/Hunting rig. The things I want in an optic are Mil/Mil turrets, 30mm tube, ability to reach out to 800-1000 yards (with a 20 moa base), priced at $400.
I think I have narrowed it down to the Falcon Menace 4-14x44 FFP Mil/Mil and the "New" Millett TRS-1 4-16x50 SFP Mil/Mil w/ illuminated ret.
Falcon Menace - Approx $420 w/ S&H
Pro:
- Mostly great reviews for the $$
- Love the ML16 reticle
- FFP can do ranging at all mag levels
Con:
- Warranty serviced through dealer and UK = High s&h and longer time
- Non-illuminated FFP not visible in low light or dark background
Millett TRS-1 - Approx $300 avail to me locally
Pro:
- Good reviews and good cs turn around when problems occour
- Less expensive by $120
- Deal with warranty claims directly with company in US
- Illuminated ret for hunting in very low light or bad background
Con:
- Seems to get less love here and on other sites
- SFP requires math at some magnification but can be done with practice
