anybody ever try bedding a marlin 917

trying to make my 917 the way i like it, cut it down, had it threaded, next is the stock, going to texture and paint it, and wanted to bed the action while i was at it, but the front screw holds into the barrel not the action, so do i just bed a little past that, i can post pics if needed
