Hey fellow addicts,

Not sure if this is the right forum to post in, but I was wondering if there are any SnipersHide members that would like to go groundhog hunting later in the summer. I'm near where Interstates 80 and 81 intersect and can travel. I just can't find any places around here to shoot at that range and have the owner allow me to do so...

My rifle build should (hopefully) be completed by mid summer so that would be the best time. I'd like to get some long range shots in (hits hopeful!) on some groundhogs.

I'm just not sure where to go / who to contact around my parts or even where to begin besides posting an ad in the local papers asking if I can come out and kill shit on your property.

Go knock on doors and ask the landowner for permission. That's how it normally done. All they can do is tell you NO! 50/50 chance of yes as well but you wont know unless you ask. Now is the time to get with it, before the farmers get TOO busy if they aint already.

That's my 2 cents worth.

Simple answer here for you. Normally the first cutting of hay will be up before you will be ready to hunt. Do a little scouting now to locate good possible hunting places(large hay fields). Then show up during hay season and help a few farmers put their hay up. Then ask to ground hog hunt in the fields you were just working in. That works almost every time. A little sweat and toil will go a long way. Just make sure that you tell the farmers that you are not looking for a place to deer hunt, only to ground hog hunt. Do this for a couple of years and you will be invited to deer hunt. Tom.

Good advice. Most farmers are more than willing to have someone help kill their grounhogs. Put in a few hours of footwork and I bet you'll have more than enough ground to keep you busy. Farmers respect and appreciate it when a person is decent enough to ask and up front enough to do the "PR" work face-to-face.

I'm only an hour or two from you, but my schedule is jammed. I'll be lucky if I even get to hunt this summer since I'll be working outta state for all but the last week or so.

I've driven through the Conynham/Hazelton area several times and it looks promising! Good luck on getting your trigger time in, I'm in the same boat...but I have an older 1000 yard bench rest competitor as a mentor/boss. Life is good!

A good trick for me is to ask them if they need a little help doing a few little things around their place. I have moved woodpiles help empty their feed truck, And always bring them something without them asking. I work for a restaurant and bakery, and they always love the sweet treats, and spend a little time "shooting the shit" with them. I had one farmer in Pa. tell me one rule " Kill all those fuckers"
