    Hey guys,

I'm going to be flying into Casper this Thursday night. Going to do some coyote hunting until the 7th when i have to fly back home. It's really a blind trip. I've never been there before and don't know anyone. I'm just going to get out and see some new country and maybe meet some new people. I'm going to get a vehicle and a BLM map and take off out of Casper and see where I end up.

If anybody is in the area and would like to meet up and do some hunting let me know. I'll be glad to buy dinner and drinks for days worth of coyote hunting with anyone that knows the area. Also, if anyone knows of any good places to stay or good places to eat in that area let me know.
Any tips, advice, or extra people to come along will be welcomed and appreciated. I'll be by myself.

    Thanks,

West of Casper out either hwy 220 or hwy 20/26 will take you to a ton of blm. You won't run out of places to go that's for sure. Make sure to eat at PoorBoys steak house. I think its on North Center st. Great place and you won't leave hungry.

    Re: Anyone around Casper, WY?

What Cinch said.. head west outta Casper and take 20/26 just about any 2 track ya find... drive on out through and find a spot that looks good and you are in song dog territory.

West side of Casper is kinda "old casper" not really Casper but anywho.. the newer nice places to stay are on the East side.

Again he's right on with PoorBoys.. go there hungry cause you'll leave stuffed.

Another thing to know, don't be surprised if it's windy as hell after 9:00. Seems like it's always windy there... I grew up in Casper, 20+ years. Still don't miss the wind.

    Re: Anyone around Casper, WY?

Got into Casper late last night. Got up today and went to find a few maps. Man, let me tell ya, it's no bullshit about the wind blowing up here. This morning it'd damn near blow you off your feet. It seemed to die down as the day went on. This evening was very nice.

I wish we had sporting goods stores back home like y'all do here. I spent a few hours in Rocky mountain discount sports and Sportsman's Warehouse. Ive never been anywhere that had Eberlestock backpacks hanging on racks before. Needless to say, I left with a nice Gunslinger II in FDE. I figured they'd be higher priced since it was just a local place, but I checked several places online, even some that are well known on here and Rocky mountain was still cheaper, plus it was right there in front of me! I picked up a few other smaller items and a couple maps.

Later in the day, I drove up on Casper Moutain. It was a very nice drive and seen alot of Mule Deer. It has some great lookout points where you can look down on the town of Casper.

I had a pretty good day. I've got all my stuff ready to go. Gonna head out in the morning towards the Shirley Basin area and see what I can find/call up. If anybody is familiar with that area, let me know if any areas are better than others. Once I get to the 487/77 split, I'm not sure which way to go.

Here are a few pics looking down on Casper.

    Re: Anyone around Casper, WY?

Another wonderful day here in Wyoming. The views never stop amazing me up here. I've taken a ton a great pics. I hunted again today, popped a pair of coyotes, but that wasn't the highlight of the day. I got to sit and watch a Bald Eagle for about 10min. Being from Oklahoma, I haven't seen many of these in the wild. I watched it with binoculars for a while. It had caught some type of field mouse or small varmint. I lit on a wooden corner post and ate it. It was a really awesome sight.

Later in the evening I took a drive back up towards the mountains on Hwy 252. The homes up in here a truely beautiful. Apparently the deer think these homes are pretty nice too, ecspecially the nicely manicured lawns. I saw loads of mule deer and a few whitetails in these people's front yards. The best Muley buck I've seen since Ive been here was standing in this driveway. There was an even bigger one in the back yard, but i hated to just get out and go walking around these people's house. I had already pulled up in their driveway. The deer didnt seem to mind me at all. Here's a few pics.

I got word Friday that I am headed to Casper for the winter. and most of spring..

    Does Casper have a 600 Yard range?</div></div>

I've only been here a few days, but I can give you a few tips on Casper.
As for the ranges, I checked on that today also. From my findings, it seems they only have a 300yd range that's open to the public. I didn't spend much time researching this, but just what I found with my Google-Fu.

I ate at Poor Boy's Steakhouse this evening. It was everything all the folks said it would be. They cook a damn fine steak. I'm not a "steak pro", but I've ate my share at a few of the more notable steakhouses across the US, and I'll say that this one wasn't too shabby.

Rocky Mountain discount sports is the shit! It's like having a mini Midway USA right down the street. You have to shop wisely though. They seem to have great prices on some things, yet way high on others. Reloading components and bullets (not loaded rounds, just bullets) seem to be way high I noticed. Clothing prices are good and the prices on Eberlestock products are the best. People in there aren't very friendly or helpful, so dont expect much in the way on "mom & pop" service. They have a great selection of BLM maps and they also have a full scale map plotter and will custom make you a map of any area you want for $7-$20 depending on the size and scale you want while you wait. Pretty damn neat I think.

Sportsman's Warehouse is sweet too! They have everything and most of it at fair prices. Nice selection of clothing, guns (tons of guns), reloading equipment, cases, calls, etc....

The local YMCA is a great place to work out. They have recently upgraded all their cardio equipment and weight room stuff. They have some nice Hammer Strenght stuff, full line of nice dumbells up to 120's so you can actually do some good with them, plenty of benches, a pure hardcore blood & guts squat rack, and some nice machines if your not into free weights.

The west side of Casper has all the new stuff. Nice hotels, Applebee's, chain stores, mall, up to date shopping. The east side is older. Lots of small shops, local joints, older motels, but the super Walmart is on the East side so it gets alot of traffic.

The Super 8 motel (east side location) is very nice. It's not at all what you'd expect from a Super 8. The rooms are amazingly clean. The staff is American and very courteous and helpful. They have a nice breakfast that starts at 5:00am with fresh biscuits and hot gravy, fresh donuts, toast, muffins, juice, cereal. The rooms all have microwaves, fridges, and ironing boards in them. Free Internet. They have a washer & dryer in the side lobby for the guests to use for $1.There is an attendant in the lobby 24hrs a day to help with anything you need. So, if you have to stay in a motel, don't over look the Super 8 (east location, there's a west one also) for a place to stay. I assure you the Holiday inn or any of the others aren't this nice and the service won't be as good.

Its not a bad lil town at all. I'm kinda sad to leave.

    Re: Anyone around Casper, WY?

Well I'm glad you had a decent trip and enjoyed your stay! You do have your east and west swapped though. West is the old part of town and east is the mall and all the newer stuff........grin

    Re: Anyone around Casper, WY?

In wyo you really don't need shooting ranges. there is so much public land that if ya drive a few minutes. you can shoot as far as most rifles are capable of.

Sounds like Wyo might have a new resident in the future... grin...

    Re: Anyone around Casper, WY?

Ha Theres a company out putting in a new pipeline and they have shitters set up almost every 200 yards. Almost ALL of them were blown over that day...
