Gunsmithing Anyone cut down length on an AR50 Barrel ?

Re: Anyone cut down length on an AR50 Barrel ?

You should be able to without issue. A guy on a local board here cut his BA50 down to 22". I haven't heard anything as far as range reports but it is possible.

Seriously...it really all comes down to what role/use you have for the rifle and whether chopping the barrel will still allow you to accomplish that. Hacking 6" or so off the barrel is going to reduce the ballistic performance of the rifle at extended ranges, is going to increase perceived recoil and muzzle blast, and it will void the warranty. On the up-side (if you want to call it that), it will certainly make the rifle a little lighter and it will make it a little more "portable" but it is still going to be a LONG, HEAVY bugger!

I mean seriously...it is YOUR rifle. If you want to hack it up and shorten the barrel...DO IT! Just realize that it is a big give and take in terms of the results you will obtain.
