Rifle Scopes Anyone have a burris fast fire mtd top of scope

Anyone have a burris fast fire mtd top of scope ??

The burris front page has a photo of this setup on a 1-4X scope.

Already have extreme rings and the picatinny tops, but I want to mount a fast fire on a 4-12X or the like, but not sure about the bell clearance for sight.

Honestly, I tried one on a shotgun shooting doves and it's just not my cup of tea. I can't imagine putting one on top of a scope. Why not just get a 1-? power scope and use that instead 'cus surely none of us are going to put a fast fire on a high power scope... Right?

really? I have one on my Saiga 12. it's the best red dot for it. it's the smallest and most inexpensive (and lightest) red dot money can buy that can take 12 gauge abuse

I was thinking of doing something similar, but on a AR10 platform. put a scope on it, and attach a Burris FFII on the scope somewhere

I mounted one for a customer on a 4.5-14x42 FF Tac with Tac-2 knobs. The bell and turrets didn't obstruct the view at all and it was actually a pretty sweet setup. I don't think you will have a problem at all with a 40mm-42mm objective.

it's better to mount it at a 45 than on top the scope, you can maintain a good position and just slightly cant you gun. if you like the fastfire, the trijicon rmr are more rugged, better battery, but are a little harder to find

Well to be fair I should probably admit that I shoot/hunt with a few Burris engineers (the Burris factory, well the U.S. one is right down the street) so it was one of their shotguns with the fast fire on it and I could see how it would be cool if you used it everyday and got used to it but for duck/goose/wet hunting the fast fire is a bad idea especially since they ~aren't waterproof. So it makes no sense to shoot with one if you're not going to hunt with it not only that but it is actually slower to pick up your target because you're limiting your field of view, i.e. it has a tendency to narrow your field of vision. There is a reason why you never see skeet/trap/sporting clay shooters with a fast fire... Obviously, I'm talking shotguns (my main area) but I can't imagine putting a fast fire on say something like a Nightforce 5.5-22, I could see doing it on a 1-4 but the fast fire is a 1-mag device so why put it on a high power scope/rifle? I think it would be great for a 3 gun match.

Depends on the shooting you're doing as well. If you're running and gunning a 45 degree angle mount is nicer for the transition. If you're going to me more stationary or at a bench, a top mount is great to keep your rifle shouldered and positioned the same and just raise your head a little. RMR's are definitely a top notch sight, but more than double the cost. If you want to start easy with a mini reflex, the fastfire is a perfect way to go. I have used one on a 44 m29 and it worked great and no problems with the recoil. For $200, its one heck of a good sight.

The use is on a 270 bolt rifle and I have one field I hunt in that is 850 yards long.

I have it dialed in with a 95 gr TTSX load running at around 3650 out of a 22" barreled savage.

That will shoot inside of 4" at 300 yards and is a sledgehammer under 150 yards. Shot a 100# pig quartering towards me at about 60 yards and it literally blew out his ass end and one ham.

With it sighted in at 265 yards, it is 2" low at 300, 10" low at 400 and 24" low at 500 yards.

Right now I have a Leupold 2-7x VX1 on it which is one of my all around favorite scopes, from woods to field, but 500 yds is a might long for 7x for me.

Originally I thought to buy a Bushnell 6500 2.5-16X but really the only time I use 2 or 2.5x would be in the swamps and thickets when I go in after hogs in which case a 1X would be better. Maybe when it is really dark too.

That got me thinking of just getting a Nikon or other 4-12x or 4.5-14X scope with a fast fire on top.

I had one of these before and tried a few different setups, but I could never find a 45D picatinny rail I liked to fit under the scope on the Savage EGW rail.
