Anyone have the AMP annealer automated setup?

This is the true pinnacle of lazy reloading, but I keep coming back to it. What's better than having your anneal setting for a case, loading an entire Dillon automatic case feeder bucket full of said cases and then press a button and they all anneal themselves?

Anyone have one? Worth the money for the system and another Dillon casefeeder?

I can already see where this is going in that I'll want that computer based system that automates the Dillon 650 next.

I have it, the Amp mate still has bugs they are working through, I can't recommend it yet, waiting on new parts and firmware.

I'm not going to get into it yet. Matt has been awesome with support, I'm waiting on 2 parts and the software update, the 1st gen is always likely to have bugs.

I'll update this thread when I have got the stuff installed and tested. Then I'll comment.

If there was a feasible way to make it work with short-to-medium cut extruded powders like Varget, N140, H4350 I'd probably be all over that like a fat kid on a donut already.

As it is, I've been eyeballing moving from my 550 + AutoThrower + AutoTrickler to a 650 with a similar setup, just to reduce the number of times I have to 'touch' each piece of brass even further... but I'm honestly not sure I shoot 'precision' rifle *that* much - and I shoot pistol/carbine very little, comparatively, so...

I am probably going to jump on the casefeeder option for the AMP when they get a few more miles on them. I love mine, but TBH when it gets to the point that I need to wear a glove because the shell holder gets <bleep>in' hot over a few hundred rounds of .308 or 6.5CM, well, I start looking again at things that reduce the number of times I have to 'touch' each case.

Yeah, they do. Back when I was shooting Service Rifle, Varget & RE-15 & H4895 were the 'go-to' powders for 223. A lot of people spent a whole lot of time screwing around polishing the interior metal surfaces of the Dillon APM, and doing all sorts of crazy things to try and get the damned thing to throw Varget better than +/- 0.3 gn. Every once in a while you'd see a decent string, but over the long run that was pretty much it. 0.2 was considered 'good'...

There were a few things that did work... putting an RCBS Uniflow on with that big honking return spring actually threw charges more consistently on the press than it did by hand - pretty sure that thing was just shearing thru any kernels that got in the way.

8208 is quite a bit shorter cut than either Varget or H4350. It *does* throw amazingly well - but it's kind of a freak that way.

My point is that I don't think extruded powder meters any worse out of a Dillon powder bar. I've operated under that belief for years but in testing recently have found TAC to meter less accurately than 8208. Fine ball powders have a tendency to spray everywhere in my 650. There are little ledges in the powder bar that a small part of the charge gets hung up on and never drops. A stick powder doesn't do this.

My AMP is now working Great and I can totally recommend it. Matt provides amazing support for any of your issues.

I happened to have a unit with an issue he had not seen before, Matt sent me numerous replacements parts twice, it took 43 emails and 6 weeks, but we worked through it all. I'm sure this cost AMP quite a bit of $$.

Also a Common issue, not related to the one above.

If you are using a case feeder, they can cause interference, Use the supplied USB cable, make 2 wraps and use a large Ferrite core.

Can't wait to get mine up and running. Can you expound on the ferrite 2 x wrap?

Make 2 coils of the USB cable, then place the Ferrite core over the 2 coils together, you are just doubling up the cable going through the ferrite core. Matt recommended 2, I did 3 just incase.

No experience with the AMP Mate but I have this unit with the auto feeder and am very happy.
