anyone looking for a CMP 40x?

about 40X condition

DanRodder, I understand about condition. Mine was a bit better in the metal, a little better on the wood. Of the one I've seen, this one is just a little below average and the price looked in line or lower compared to others in this condition. I think for a project gun it will not get much lower unless the CMP finds and lets out some more (been told not happening in 2009)

Re: about 40X condition

If you're building a trainer, you're going to replace the stock, and either chop or replace the barrel as well. It's the receiver and bolt that you're buying.

Cosmetics are only skin-deep, but you'll certainly be paying a premium for that when you do find it.

Re: about 40X condition

Nope, I don't plan on changing a thing. I want a 40X for what it is, a target rifle. I enjoy putting on the shooting coat, shoot from position, and cut ragged clusters on paper with open sights. Being single shots, they are limited as trainers. I think the quad builds we've seen here lately are more useful for that. I use a Finnfire P94S. With it's 10 rd capacity, and the .22 LR round requiring 23 minutes of correction (from 50 to 200 yds), you are able to practice quick follow up shots, practice bolt manipulation, engage multiple targets either dialing in or using hold overs. As for cosmetics, we all want a good looking rifle, and it will cost what it'll cost when you run across the right one. Heck that's never stopped us before.
