I used to wonder what the 22wmr was capable of at 200 yards.
You read about folks making unlikely claims of accuracy at extended range with the cartridge.
If you apply the half-third rule of rimfire to the spread on target
you can predict the results at lesser distances.
200 yards 9 inches of spread
100 yards 3 inches of spread
50 yards 1 inch and 25 yards 1/3 inch of spread.
I just tested all the brands and types of 22wmr ammo I could get my hands on.
The entire box, 50 shots at 200 yards, across a chronograph, at a single aimpoint.
CZ 455 Varmint, set trigger, Feddersen 16-1/2 inch heavy barrel, Mueller 8-32x44 scope
Here are the pics of the target results...
I'll be doing this with the 17hmr, 17wsm and 22lr.
It's an entertaining way to start out a morning at the range, before setting up my F-Class 223.
Work out all the yips before attempting precision shooting with my centerfire handloads.
