Pretty much ^. I think the only difference between the two casings other than caliber is the 6XC has a 30 degree shoulder, and maybe a slightly longer neck? I do know i want one and it's one hell of an accurate round also.

Mack

The 6mm/22-250 is the 22-250 necked up to 6mm without any other dimensional changes to the case, so it still has a lot more body taper than the newer 6xc, so be careful about load data. It does not have the case capacity to handle 6xc charge weights.

I came across my 6mm/22-250 second hand and have used it to good effect in F Class competition. It is an older development that has lost it's popularity to the newer offerings, but is still a nice little cartrige.

With a 30" Krieger barrel,1/8 twist - 105 Bergers and 37.0 H4350 gave me a 5 shot avg of 2908 fps. 32.0 Varget with the 107 SMK clocked 2828 fps for a 5 shot avg - both giving half MOA and smaller groups at 100 yds. The first 4 600 yard F Class matches I shot with the Varget load were each a personal-best score, so I am certainly not dissapointed.

I have not tried the lighter bullet weights since I am not a varmit hunter, just a target shooter.

One of the reasons the rifle I have became available is that the previous owner wanted to shoot the 115 gr VLD's and the 6mm/250 just did not have the capacity to push them to a usable velocity. The 105 to 108 gr bullet weight would seem to be the upper limit.

Hope this helps, and, as always YMMV.

Re: Anyone shooting a 6mm-22-250?

The 6mmx250 is also know as the 6mm International. The cartridge has morphed into the 240NMC. The 6X then 6XC is actually closer to a shortened 243 Win in dimensions (dies can be made by machining off .125" from a 243Win die). But the easiest way to make brass for the 6XC is to fire form 22/250 brass that has been necked up. The advent of high BC small caliber bullets led to it's development.

David Tubb developed the 6X and 6XC not for improved performance over the 243Win that he was shooting in across the course matches, but to extend barrel life. The 243Win with 107gr bullets will wear out a good barrel in 2,000 rounds. The 6XC will make about 3,000. This is significant when you look at the NRA High Power match schedule. If your a high level competitor, it's not uncommon to shoot 2-3,000 rounds between March first and Camp Perry. If you have seasonal zeros worked up by June 1, but then have to change barrels right before Perry, it can blow your chances for the big win.

The 6XC is slightly better for the short course lines and gives up very little to the 243Win at 600 yards. Extended barrel life is why it exists, not ballistic performance.

Re: Anyone shooting a 6mm-22-250?

The 6x22-250 is a great cartridge. I've been using one for several years for LR competition to 1000yds. Compared to the 6XC, it doesn't give up much, if you use the 107/108 bullets. A 27" Lilja 3 groove bbl gets me about 2950, using the 107SRA and H-4350. Winchester brass is cheap considering 6XC specific brass. I am now on my 6th firing of a lot. Haven't tried any of the Lapua stuff yet. Should also make a great ATC round.

"The 6mmx250 is also know as the 6mm International. "

Well, the 6mm International (Walker) also has the shoulder set back a bit for a longer neck.
