Anyone shooting a Sako 75 Varmint?

I have wanted a 260 for a while, and found a Sako 75 varmint with a heavy fluted stainless barrel and laminated wood stock. I was wondering if anyone here shoots a similar Sako, and if so what are your opinions of the rifle?
I would be using the rifle for LR shooting, I see that Near Mfg makes a 20MOA base, and McMillan makes stocks. It seems like a great rifle, and has the twist rate I need.
Its either the Sako, or rebarrel a remington action.

Go for the Sako!!

Add a Near Mfg. base, tune trigger, and then have it pillar bedded into a McMillan Sako 75 stock & it'll shoot with the best of them!!

Thanks Buckey, do you have experience with one? I like it a lot, I just need some encouragement and positive reviews.

It has a single-set trigger that when set is at 1# and breaks like glass, its awsome.
I was looking at McMillans web site and I dont see any of their tactical stocks being made for this rifle, is that a special request?

I have a sako 75 in 22/250 with MCM A5 Near Base and set trigger, had metal done in OD cerakote rifle shoots very well and the action is as smooth as a couple of customs I own. Its a nice set up.

had another in a Winter Camo A5 in .243 it got sold to fund a 6.5x47 build

If I get time I will do pics. I say go for it......I would have my sako over a rem 700 but thats just me.

my rifle and the .243 both had factory tubes. Both guns shoot well. My 22/250 will putt 3 shots touching at 100 yards when I do my part.

I've got a Sako 75 A1 action in triple deuce. Extremely accurate.

They're really good actions, 3-lug, 60deg throw, very smooth and reliable mag feeding.

Can't go wrong really. Not a huge fan of the tapered dovetails on top, given it limits scope and/or base choices but in the design's defence, it allows a pretty solid set up.

I have a Sako A5 with a factory sporter barrel in 30-06 that I love. Great action. I just wish the barrel was heavier. I'd say bed it in a Mcmillan stock and see how she shoots.

I have the lesser of the varmint models---no stainless barrel, no set trigger. It still shoots excellently. And the mcmillan sako varmint stock is the best multi-purpose stock I have ever used.

I have the "lesser" of the varmint models---no stainless barrel, no set trigger. It shoots excellently. Action is smooth as butter, trigger is crisp and adjustable. The mcmillan sako varmint stock is the most comfortable multi purpose stock I own. I will have it on all my hunting rifles one day.

I have a early one with the non-fluted barrel and its in stainless steel. I really like mine. Its in .223 with the 1-12 twist. Before they went to the 1-8 twist. I shoot it at egg shoots here. I load it with Laupa brass and 55 gr Bergers. It was CRAZY accurate with the discontinued Nosler 52 match bullets. I shot several 5 shot groups under 1/2 inch at a measured 100 yards with the old Noslers. Some were over that but they were my fault. With good hand loads and on a still day when I'm "on" its a 1/2 inch gun at 100 yd. Only issue seems to be a bit of galling with the bolt. I keep it well greased. I wish they had made the bolt out of carbon steel like my Stiller. I think you won't be dissapointed with the accuracy, however you won't be dissapointed with a custom barreled 700 either......

I have both, Sako[ actuallly a 75 varmint and a 85 sporter ] and a couple of Tikka T3's. Other than the triggers being similar, and the barrels being made on the same machine, the rifles have nothing in common. They are both GREAT rifles, but the Tikka is not similar to the SAKO at all.....

Sako 75 SS here in .260 with the 1/9 twist. Can't say there is any better factory rig out there. Feeds so smoothly you have to visually verify. My Surgeon 591 and Borden Alpine aren't that smooth. Accuracy is on par with custom rigs.

I have a SAKO 75 stainless varmint in .260 also....one of my absolute favorite rifles. It loves 130 accubonds and 123 lapua scenars loaded in Nosler brass.

I have put together a few Sako rifles like I stated above. They weren't in the .260 caliber, but they were Sako 75's. These rifles all shot great!!

In fact, I have a Sako 75 barreled action (300 RUM) sitting here waiting for my stock from McMillan. As soon as it arrives, I'm sending the entire package to GAP to have it pillar bedded & my Near Mfg. base installed on it.

I already did a few things to it: I had a muzzle brake installed by Accu-Flite here in Pittsburgh & I had the bolt spiral fluted by Kampfeld Customs.

I also had a custom rifle built by Patriot Arms off a Sako 75 action, here it is:

Thanks for all the feedback so far. I think I am going to go for it if I can get a good price. They are asking $1500 for it, and the blue book value for 90% is $850, and its about 90%. Scratches and chips in the stock, some discoloring on the barrel; but the bore and bolt look like its never been fired. Im would put new stock on and paint it so the cosmetic stuff doesnt bother me. Paying $700 too much could be a deal killer.

$1500 is too much!!! Offer them what you feel is right & if they don't take, look elsewhere - you'll find one.

I am trying to find a LH Tikka Varmint, they are in catalog in 308 and 30.06 but I am told they are not imported to states? Anyone ever seen a lefty Varmint?

Sakos are great rifles. I had a 75 Varmint in 22-250 that was a hammer. I regret ever getting rid of it.

1500 is way too much however. I sold mine that was a 96-99% gun on both the wood and metal for 1100 and thought I did well.

You'll enjoy the gun. And McM does have an inlet program written for them.

591 Sako Varmint 308 Win,

Mcm Stock, S&B 5-25, Roedale rail and rings,

Atlas bipod.

Shoots about .75 MOA out to 300 meters and the it´s the drivers fault for shooting worse.

Best ever for me was a 6 shot string at 500 meters about 95 mm or a bit less than 4 inches, not that great but not all that bad either.
