Anyone Shooting USAammo??

Re: Anyone Shooting USAammo??

I shot it when NTRP was doing the load development for them, it shot sub moa in all the guns that tried it. I liked it enough to buy 500 rounds of it recently but haven't been able to shoot it. I hope to do that soon.

Re: Anyone Shooting USAammo??

Just shot some of their 55gr FMJ ammo (once fired) yesterday out of my POF. There were no issues and it shot well. I couldn't give an accurate group size as I was simply zeroing the rifle with a CQB optic.

Re: Anyone Shooting USAammo??

I have ordered and used lots of this ammo. I regularly shoot the .223, .308, and .45. No problems and is great for the price!

edit: was originally sent to USAammo by another Hide member. Thanks and I hope this thread gets others to consider the ammo.

Re: Anyone Shooting USAammo??

I actually have 175gr and 158gr USA Ammo 308 here. I"m goingn to do a comparison between this and Southwest Ammunition's 175gr if that ever comes in. I think it will be a close one...

When you get your SW ammo I would love to see this comparison!!

I was actually looking at getting 500 or 1000 rounds of that for the times that I'm limited to 100 yards or less.

Re: Anyone Shooting USAammo??

I have tried their 155 Amax and 168 Amax. The 155 Amax was VERY difficult to chamber in a remington 700 varmint. I fired 4 of these and noticed pressure signs and stopped. I then tried the 168 which chambered, fired, and ejected just fine. They were not as accurate as hornady 168 Amax however. I did not dare trying to shoot this ammo out of the M1a that I bought it for due to the pressure signs. Thankfully I tried it out in the 700 first.

Re: Anyone Shooting USAammo??

i shoot their 308 175 hpbt and it shoot sub moa it is good stuff. they use lake city one fired brass.

had one lot of rounds that wouldn't chamber i called and they sent out replacements the next day.

i continue to buy from usa it is well worth it.

Re: Anyone Shooting USAammo??

Ive shot the 155 Amax, 168 hpbt and the 175's from USAA - I have to be honest and say that I didnt think they were anything special. I even had several FTF's using the 175's. Price point aside, IMHO FGGM is a better choice.

Even though I got a great deal on them I sure don't want some of the problems I have heard about. Not worth the savings if they don't go boom...even worse if they go big boom.

You wouldn't think they would still be selling batches of bad stuff, I sure hope not anyhow.

Some of the Ammo vendors here on the hide are active posting members. I think it would be cool if USAammo had someone doing that as well.

Did you get yours yet?

Re: Anyone Shooting USAammo??

No, no email either.

Got an email from Gearhog about how a lot of people tried to buy more than one gift code and how a lot of people used their one gift code for multiple buys and how USAammo has spent a lot of time working through that and a few kinks with Gearhogs codes. Said USAammo had to hire some more people to keep up with sales from the deal etc. Hopefully it wont be too long but I think at least 2,000 orders came from the deal.

I'm not in a huge hurry, but if anyone from USAammo reads this, I'd appreciate ammo that feeds and shoots when it does get here haha.

Re: Anyone Shooting USAammo??

I'd just like to get some kinda answer. They said I used two codes today, but I had called and asked before hand. I'd like to of just used that cashola towards some southwest ammo

Can you explain that further? I purchased 480 rounds a few months ago and have shout around 100 or so with no problems. Has their been some other problems other than the 223 that I am not aware of?

The 308s have been having feeding/chambering issues. I had 100 of the 175s and very few would chamber in my rifle. The ones that did chamber took a lot of force and I wouldn't feel safe shooting em. Some have also noted problems with stuck bolts and extraction, maybe due to overpressure?

They've been very good about sending out replacements but it would be nice if someone from USA could chime in here and explain what's been going on.

Re: Anyone Shooting USAammo??

I purchased two boxes of 308 168 and 175 bthp just for sh*ts and giggles. Fired from pof 308 16" w/ leu m4 4.5-14x50. Shot 12 rounds total of each weight in three shots sets at 100 and 200 meters. Removed bipod, turned gas piston system to off(shoots manual and acts same as bolt gun)and shot off sandbags for truest groups and be fair as possible. 92 degrees, 30% humidity,4-6 mph wind from my 6. Long and short of it, not impressed at all. 100 meter group of 168gr 1.5", 200meter 3". 175 gr 100m 1.75" 200m 3". Federal gold metal match 168 & 175 gr bthp sierra match king factory loads as comparison tried and true steadfast. Both shoot .25-.5" @100m and .75-1" MOA @200 easy.
This is just one mans experience don't rely on my finding as gospel. Read up on other posts from others they may have better luck. IMHO the extra $2-$3 a box you spend is worth the better results.

Re: Anyone Shooting USAammo??

Hard to look forward to my 240 rounds of 308 175's not knowing if the problem has been fixed or not. Hopefully more people will post info, OAL etc about batches of rounds they had problems with.

Wow that's interesting. I wonder if their site is having issues or if they intentionally removed the 308. If that's the case, I'm tossing all mine in the trash. If they don't trust their own product, why would I?

Re: Anyone Shooting USAammo??

My buddy was going to use this at last match and we got done there and started to site in and found none of his would chamber properly ..They did back it up and offer replacement on his 175 loads , but still i wont use

Re: Anyone Shooting USAammo??

I called them yesterday to find out what was going on with my order. The guy I spoke with said they had been inundated with orders since the 22nd due to the Gearhog coupon. I just hope it will shoot. I guess if nothing else I could just pull all the bullets. DAMN I forgot! I only have an impact bullet puller.

Re: Anyone Shooting USAammo??

I ordered 2 boxs since they had the shipping discount just to try them, out of the 40 rounds I got 4 to chamber. I called CS today and the lady said they had pulled all .308 from the store but she didn't say why.

Re: Anyone Shooting USAammo??

I got a quick reply from their CS about any problems there might be with ammo after receiving an email regarding the slight problems there where with the Gearhog codes. I emailed back letting them know that if they could check in here from time to time to keep us updated like some good vendors do that it would go a long way with a lot of customers/supporters on the Hide. We'll see, if they don't join and post here for whatever reason then I will post the email I got. So far so good though.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm weary about even getting it now. I want to order some .223, but I don't want it blowing up my gun

Due to the overwhelming response to our GearHog offer on July 21, 2011, our shipping lapse time has been extended. This extension is very unusual and solely due to the enormous amount of orders we received in a 3 day time period. We are working diligently and efficiently to reduce our shipping backlog and fully expect to be back to normal very soon.

We thank you for your patience during this extraordinary period. We are committed to bringing the finest quality ammunition made right here in the USA to the market place and as a result our processes were overwhelmed by your tremendous support of our recent offer. As a consolation for your patience, we are extending each of you a one time use of our MOREAMMO shipping discount. You may use the MOREAMMO coupon on your next order. This offer is not available for users who use a second GearHog gift certificate.

Again, thank you so much for your tremendous support of our efforts to keep ammunition manufacturing alive in the USA. We look forward to providing you with the highest quality ammunition. Please visit www.usaammo.com for all your ammunition and gear needs.

Hello and thank you for the update, saw this coming after the order numbers reached 2000. The S.Hide has been known to repeatedly send orders through the roof.

I have heard some good reports but also heard some not so good. There have been reports on the forum of a lot of cases of failures to feed, some from OAL being too large, possible high pressures and gun malfunctions caused by some of the ammo people have got from you guys. I have heard it about 223/5.56 and 308 175 grains. I have heard that you guys have worked things out by sending replacement ammo. I'm wondering if things (QC) has caught up to this and those batches are no longer in your inventory or if I need to be cautious about even shooting the 240 rounds of 308 175's I ordered through this deal.

Thank you for your help.</div></div>

I know they haven't been on here to see how some of the vendors work with the people on here. It usually does nothing but good for their business and for the sport but I guess not everyone has the time or enough people to have someone present on a forum like this. At least they seem confident in their QC, hopefully it all works out. I know problems come up and its all about how it is handled. USAammo's customer service has been great so far and I hope there are not that many problems in the future. We'll see how it goes from here I guess.

Re: Anyone Shooting USAammo??

My guess is that the CS rep you spoke with has very little experience with how their product works and what goes into producing it. I say this because the specifics you mentioned were glossed over with very generic responses.
I, too, purchased the GearHog coupon because of the good things I had heard about USA's .308 175. First I couldn't get their automated system to ship to me in Ca., then there was no answer on the phone during business hours, and now they have removed all .308 from the website. Maybe my bad luck is actually good!
If it were me, I would not chamber a single round until there is some clarification as to why they seem to have stopped offering .308, definitely wasn't because it isn't selling.

Re: Anyone Shooting USAammo??

Yeah man, I'm not sure what to think with the 308's being taken off of the site. I kinda thought the same thing but didn't want to speculate or make too many comments about a vendor. Won't be too easy to put my face and right eye behind the action while I try to find out whats up with the bullets I bought though. Maybe someone will get to bottom of it soon.

Re: Anyone Shooting USAammo??

Update to post on USA ammo i made couple days ago. Still had couple rounds left over from my grouping test I did from my pof for my $.02.... well I broke out and dusted off my chronograph (Chrono gamma product, like $189 model nothing top of line but descent reviews) shot the last 8 168 and last 8 175 gr bthp of the boxes. Result as follows: 168gr @ 4' from muzzle with yield and spread of 2276 fps - 2403 and every possible number in between.... Laughable in my opinion!!!! 175gr bthp SAA spread of 2190-2355 fps.... Guess they threw a couple grains of the oldest and cheapest powder they could find, some sand, and Oreo cookie crumbs for filler. Let me know if anyone else out there has done the same test or my chrono is on the fritz.

Re: Anyone Shooting USAammo??

I too bought 240 rounds of USAammo.com ammo .308, I will be interested to see how well or bad it shoots. I did talk to customer service yesterday about the fact they stopped selling the .308 ammo. The reason that was given was understandable from a business perspective. I was told the reason was the huge demand on that ammo had them so backed up they could not keep up, so rather then have people wait who knows how long to get there ammo they stopped selling it until they could get caught back up with there stock. I was also told it would be Monday when they would be caught up but we shall see. Now why they don't just have a out of stock feature like Southwest ammo I don't know but to each there own..
