Anyone use a Timney 4.5# for NRA Highpower?

I had a RRA 2 stage NM trigger in my AR15-A2 build that I use for High Power/Service Rifle that has lost its 2nd stage after 2.5K~ rounds, and am looking to find a replacement.

Found a Timney 4.5# trigger that only costs $140 shipped, and that fits my budget range pretty well (if not for budget, I'd go for a Geiselle). My question is, does anyone here use a Timney for their match rifles? Anyone see downside to using a single stage vs a 2 stage trigger for the purpose of high power? Thanks.

Single-stage vs. 2-Stage triggers are always a matter of personal preference, compliance with rules (depending on the comp), etc.

My take on it is that I would rather than a 2-stage trigger for comps which have specific trigger pull weight restrictions. For example...in your case...you have to have a trigger with a 4.5lb total pull. The rules are mum on how you get that pull, which is where the 2-stage triggers really shine since they give you a 2.5-3lb (give or take depending on the trigger and how its setup) 1st stage so that you can "stage" or "set" the trigger, followed by a 1.5-2lb (again...give or take) second stage. I would rather have to stage a trigger and then get a crisp, clean, 2lb (or less) second stage than I would to have a straight, 4.5lb pull single-stage unit for use in competition...but that's just my take on it.

While I like the Timney triggers very much and I use one in a couple of my ARs...I wouldn't suggest them for NRA Service Rifle because I think it will likely put you at a disadvantage.

I think the white oak armory 2-stage is 110$, that's what I'd get. 140$ for the Timney is a good deal though, I have a 4? timney and a 4lb chip mccormick in my varmint rifles and the timeny is better.

Totally agree with ORD. For service rifle competition a two-stage trigger is a huge improvement over a single stage.

if you are truly on a budget there is Rock River--best when tuned by white Oak--or just use a Bill Springfield tuned trigger
----then get a Giess. when funds improve

If buying a Geis for highpower, is the SSA 2 stage (4.5- 2.5/2#) acceptable? Or is it all or nothing the HS-Service Rifle?

If you want an adjustable unit (personal decision on whether you want/need it), then you will want either the High Speed Service Rifle or the High Speed DMR. Both can be adjusted to the 4.5lb trigger limit, but offer the advantage (if you find it to be one) of a very lightweight second stage pull (depending on how low you want to go).

If you want a fixed, non-adjustable unit...then you'll want the SSA (super semi-auto) which keeps you at the 4.5lb weight limit. The SSA-E (enhanced) is too light at only 3.5lbs total pull weight.

First, send the RRA back to Rock River. Then get another trigger. Since you shoot HiPower Do not buy another trigger until you get a Geissele. If you get a trigger for $110 now you will end up with the Geissele later on,Maybe 6 months from now and you will say why did I not get this to begin with? You will save money by getting what yhou want to begin with. I have 3 rifles that have Geissele's in them. You will not be dissapointed. Bill is a stand up guy, I was at perry and he checked my trigger, he found something he did not like so he replaced the Hammer. No charge.
