Guys - buying a Wilson combat rig. They are building upper custom. Trying to decide between 16" and 20" barrels in 6.5 CM.

Cannot suppress yet until CA changes its laws but will use heavy duty brake and Magpul PRS stock with JP Enterprises recoil spring.

With that set up any concerns with mid length gas system?

Wilson Combat does this weird thing of drilling the rifle length gas port between DPMS & AR10 lengths. This makes a DPMS rifle length gas tube too short, and an AR10 gas tube length too long. 15.125" vs 15.5". WC needs a tube 15.3" to place it center of the cam pin recess in the receiver. They sell the 15.5 on their site and that places the gas tube 3/4 way through the recess and after time, the gas tube shears off the roll pin holding the tube in the gas block. I know, I've seen mine do it.

Thanks for feedback guys. Largely leaning toward Wilson as their custom uppers come out around $1600 and I already have a Wilson lower. After dropping $5K on an MRAD last January finding it tough to stomach $4200 for an SP10M, a GAP or a JP. Got some great feedback from Frank, others on accuracy of Wilson platforms and reliability.

Find idea of a 16 inch barrel very appealing for weight and portability but concerned about the MLGS. Ronin it sounds like they do some weird stuff on their 20 inch as well with the full length? Apologies if terminology not precise, still learning large frame gas guns.

Just say no to LFAR MLGS unless it's an SBR.
You would be very well served to heed the advice above. Reliability is superior with a rifle gas system even with 16" barrels. As a bonus they tend to be smoother shooting and tolerate suppression better. A mid-length could maybe be tamed with an AGB and buffer tuning, but sometimes they are still an issue.

Hey Tyler, it is. That is my concern. Tekmann, thinking I will order the 20" with the rifle length. I cannot have a can in California anyway. So if that changes, I can always convert to the 16" barrel for less than $500. In the interim, the 20" only adds 6 oz and sounds like it will make the gun much more reliable and more comfortable to shoot.

16" intermediate is a sweet spot in a 5.56 if you ask me. I do not care for 16" midlength gas barrels, and if not suppressed 100% or only shooting 1 type of ammo, I would think 16" rifle would be a pain to tune. Don't know for sure as I have never had one. I don't know about 6.5 creedmoor in that configuration though, maybe rifle length is the way to go.

I built mine with a 16" W.C. 6.5CM barrel with the intermediate gas tube and adjustable gas block. I only have 50rds thru it, but love it so far. I am shooting suppressed tho. I'll keep an eye on the gas tube issue tho. Never heard of it and learn something new everyday.
The gas tube length issue only applies to Wilson combat large frame rifle length gas barrels. All other gas tube lengths are standard as far as I know.

BTW it doesn't cost that much to get the barrel chopped. Adco can do it for something like $75 + shipping as long as you pull it yourself.
