got a couple AR-10's looking at reloading for a little more precision, i was wondering what difference you guys weigh your brass, within 2/10's of a gr or what variances some of your opinions are, i also found the OAL is about 2.825 to the bullet hittin the lands so i backed off a couple thousandths since the rounds still fit in the clip just fine, to see if i can get any different grouping, i have been going with OAL 2.810. I use a RCBS competition die set, but still have small differences when i seat bullets, i also full length resize, sure i will have jamming issues if i only neck em, any additional info appreciated.

I'm still a reloading newbie, but if you are using a competition bullet seater you are seating by the ogive which is giving you inconsistent OAL. Most bullets aren't consistant enough to give the exact same OAL to the thousandth when seating by the ogive. The meplat isn't exactly the same on every one.

I noticed alot of over pressure when I went from my bolt gun to my AR-10. I backed it way off and found a good combo. Nosler custom brass, Varget 40.5gr. , Winchester large rifle primers and 165 gr Nosler Accubonds. It's right around 2400 fps. I've shot sub MOA groups at 100 yds. I like the Varget quite a bit it's really consistant with some of the temp. changes we have around here. Have Fun!

for my 308 AR's I load to 2.810 to fit the magazines and they have to jump some - oh well...I load my 308 bolt guns differently and load .15 off the lands. I also keep the brass separate from each other and two shall never meet.

ya i'm finding i don't think its gonna matter to weigh my ar-10 brass, and i'm getting better groups with my OAL @ 2.810, even though i can seat them closer to the lands @ 2.820 and they still fit in the mags, thanks for your input, i appreciate the help and any more info some of you have.
