AR-10 feeding problem

I have an armalite AR-10 and it keeps failing to feed. It will not pick up the next round in the magazine. The round will partially feed and then it gets stuck under the bolt. I have to drop the magazine and pull the bolt back to let the round fall out. This all started when I got the gun re-barreled. I have gone over the gun with a fine toothed come trying to find something that is broken or out of place, and I can't. I have changed mags and triggers. If anyone has had theis problem let me know what you did to fix it.

Re: AR-10 feeding problem

What magazines are you using? Gen1 or Gen2? What mags were you using BEFORE you had the gun re-barreled?

It's possible that the rounds are "nose-diving" into the feed ramp. Remove your upper from your lower receiver and remove the Bolt carrier group. With your pinky finger feel the feed ramps where the barrel extension meets the receiver if you feel a little "ledge" there then that could most likely be your problem.

The quick fix for this involves a dremel tool with an angle grinding stone and careful hands... if you aren't comfortable with that then I'd take it to a gunsmith to get it "evened out". I just hit mine with a dremel and its been fine. YMMV.

Hope this helps a little.

Re: AR-10 feeding problem

I have the same gun and had the same problem, but not quite as extreme as you describe. I found that in shooting Sierra Bullets that the meplat was hanging on the load ramp and stuffing the bullets further back into the case. Try loading and ejecting that first round and measure it to see if its getting stuffed. My final solution was just to switch to Amax bullets. the poly tip does not hang on the ramp like a hollow point can.

Re: AR-10 feeding problem

Re-barreled?
Perhaps gashole is smaller than it used to be.

Had similar problem with my AR 762 while ago. Partially feed and stucks under the bolt.

Try to load it with one cartridge, does BHO catch the bolt?

Re: AR-10 feeding problem

Thanks for the photo, I will look mine over. I actually meant to post that to the AR-10 first round accuracy thread. Too many folks with AR-10 problems tonight... I will post it again over there
