About 6 weeks ago I ordered a 22” LaRue 6.5 AR-10 and is my introduction into an AR and Long Range shooting. I’m aware that bolt action is preferred/beneficial LR platform and will most likely be the next gun purchase. I’m now shopping for a 34mm tube scope and looking for recommendations, why it’s preferred, customer service and what to avoid.

  • What is the platform for the scope? LaRue 22” AR-10 rifle
  • What cartridge are you shooting? 6.5 Creedmoor 130 Grain Federal Gold Medal Berger Open Tip Match. Not ready for reloading yet, but am interested.
  • What is your intended use for the scope? Target shooting, would also like to try PRS or NRL at some point.
  • What type of conditions will you typically shoot in? Daylight
  • What are the typical distances you intend to shoot? Depending on where I’m at, 300-600 yrds, 300-700 yrds, 300-1700 yrds.
  • What is the price range you can afford? $2200 - $3800.

I like Nikon scope optics for the money - I believe they have a specific scope for the 308 in their AR/MSR Riflescope series. Look also at their Black Riflescope series.

In your price range look at the zco 4-20 or s&b pmII ultrashort 3-20 both are more compact designs that would work well on a gas gun. For a lot less than your price range you can look at the Vudu 5-25, Sig tango 6 3-18, Leupold mk5 3-18 or mk 6. A lot of really good compact options are out there
