Almost done building my ideal ar-10 and need suggestions for which free float rail.
It has a 20 inch barrel, and I want to reduce the weight ( eventually plan on chopping the barrel down to 18) and keep it bulk free, so I'm looking at a SWS E-1, Daniel Defense 12.0 rail, or the JP/VTAC free float.
Currently leaning towards the JP as it is the slimmest, although I'm not sure exactly how light it is compared to the others. Anyone ever had any problems with the JP? I haven't found anyone that actually has it on an ar-10/.308 platform.

Thanks

Back when I had an AR10 I was considering this as well. One pro of the JP tube is that it is the lightest, and it is cheap. However should you plan to start bolting on rails to it, weight and cost can add up fast. Should you want a good bit of rail space, may be better off just starting with a quad rail.

That's the only AR-10 rail I will consider when I keep adding AR-10s to the stable. I will continue to support Art and his company because he was the only one who listened to AR-10 owners a few years back when no one was making ff rails. The only option you had was to find a take off RAS and pay out the ass for it. Art is a stand up guy who has great customer service.

Did some net digging, looks like the JPVTAC is 15 oz, and the SWS E1 is 15.5. If i start adding rails and junk to the JP, it'll weigh more.

Wow, the E-1 really is lightweight.
Cost wise, looks like the SWS is $361 with shipping.
Whereas I can get the VTAC for 141, plus 80 bucks for the two rail pieces im looking for.

Decisions decisions...
Thanks gents

SWS hands down. I have them on both of my AR10's. I also ditto what was said above about Art. You won't talk to a nicer gentleman, and he was there listening when the rest wouldn't bother.
I've heard of mounting issues with the JP.
I have a DD on my R15 and it;s a good product.
I won't buy anything LaRue. I can't stand coolaid.

I like the SWS E1, I really like the 15" model with the knurled grips on the bottom portion. It does not say how much it weighs, but I know it will be a few ounces more than the regular model. I just like how it covers the gas block and gives your as close to original sight radius possible. I havent got one yet, Im actually torn between the SWS 15" model, or the PRI carbon fiber ones. Around the same price, but the PRI is super light and just as strong. The 3 choices im weighing is the Troy Ind. MRF-308 rail, SWS E1 15", and the PRI. Troy is the heaviest I believe, and PRI being the most versatile. Just my opinion.
