I have a used GA Precision AR10 in my possession and the safety doesn't work properly. The safety will go on even after the trigger is pulled on an empty chamber. Is this a common occurance or is it like an ar-15 and I need to have this repaired. I didn't want to call GA Precision because this is not a new rifle and I don't have any idea how this happened or when for that matter and I don't want to ship it off if I don't have too. Just want to get guys opinion's on why this is happening and if it is common with the AR-10 platform.

Re: AR-10 trigger issue?

I don't know what trigger is in the gun but it is a GA built rifle. I don't know if its the trigger that GA installed or if someone did it afterwards.

The selector does work otherwise but I figured I was right that this needs to be fixed I just wanted to double check. The only 308 gas gun is the MK11 that we were issued in Iraq.

Re: AR-10 trigger issue?

Doesn't sound like normal function of the selector to me.

Two things...

First, have you taken the upper off the lower to visually inspect the fire control components or otherwise done any further disassembly of the lower to check for obvious problems?

Second, have you dropped GAP an e-mail or made a call to see if this is something that they installed or otherwise modified for the rifle?

I have shot complete GAP-built AR-10's in the past and none of them would do what you are describing (at least not that I can recall).

Re: AR-10 trigger issue?

Can you take a picture of the trigger mechanism from the top with the upper off? If the trigger is a JARD, the safety will engage after the weapon has been dry fired.

Here are pics of the inside. If you need I can take a pic of the inside of the trigger group with the hammer in the fired position.

Re: AR-10 trigger issue?

You're missing half of the back of your trigger. It appears to be broken and it even looks like the disconnector is missing. That's not a RR trigger, and looks to be a single stage.
When the hammer is cocked and the sear is engaged, the back of the trigger drops down, allowing the selector to be rotated. When everything is in the fired position, the back of the trigger is in the up position, and rests just below the flat on the selector, preventing the selector from turning. Two things can be happening here. Either the back of the trigger where the selector engages is so worn (or broken as yours appears to be) that even in the unfired position, the selector can be rotated, or the bottom of the hammer is so worn that the back of the trigger no longer comes up to it's original position. I'm guessing on the first condition, seeing that your trigger is damaged.
