Edit: alright problem solved, Rafael just pointed out blatantly how much of a moron i am.

hi guys,

i purchased a lothar walther barrel from spikes tactical about two weeks ago. didn't have the time to go to the range until today. after shooting 80 rounds of hornady match 69 gr BTHP through it i called it a day and came home.

once i got home i started cleaning it by first putting a patch soaked with hoppes nine through it. i let it sit for about five minutes then ran a brass brush through it back and forth all the way through and all the way back about five times. after that i ran another patch slightly soaked with hoppes nine through it. since the patch came out pretty clean i proceeded to run four more unsoaked patches through it, which at that point came out dry and clean. with that done i soaked a patch with silicon oil and ran that through. after running that patch through i ran one last patch to clean up any excess oil.

after cleaning i inspected barrel from the receiver end and then the muzzle end. here's where the problem was noticed, i realized that there was what looks like a speck around 3 mm long and 1/4mm high, perpendicular to the barrel at the 1 o'clock position about a good 6 inches in from the muzzle. naturally i ran a patch though it again assuming it was just debris. but the speck would not come off. fast foward another 15 mins after another cycle of clearing with hoppes, the brush, and LOTS of patches; the speck is still there!

does any one know what caused it or what it is, i searched a bit and found sites explaining rifling cracking and etc but nothing really seemed like it fits with the description. i sure it not a gauge in the rifling as i can see that it protrudes pretty clearly when holding the barrel near a light. im thinking of buying a hoppes tornado brush from my local dicks (insert jokes here) and see if i can scrub it out, good/bad idea?

i really dont think i will be able to take a picture of it as the dia of 223 barrel is just too small but i will try.

wow that makes sense.....yeah this is my first ar (or any semi for that matter) well i guess problem solved. wow i feel like a moron now. well thanks for that rafael
edit:though i have to say, why is it at the 1 o'clock position? shouldn't it be in the 12o'clock position? shouldn't the post on the barrel align the hole in the 12o'clock position automatically. im pretty sure i mounted the gasblock exactly on top of the gas port.

I thought about joking you, but recalled my ignorance when I got my first AR.

You absolutely sure it is a 1 o-clock?
Is it possible the mirror on your borescope spun a bit?

If you want to be sure, remove the gas-block and shine a light thru the hole while you scope it.

Either way, I would not be concerned unless the barrel does not shoot well.
