I've been thinking about converting my home built mid-length AR15 to gas piston, using a conversion kit as opposed to a new GP upper. There seem to be several popular conversion kits on the market. Is there any consensus of opinion as to the "best" one, or is it a matter of Silverado vs F150 vs Ram?

One I've specifically been looking at and would appreciate comments about is the Adams Arms Micro Adjustable. It looks like this would work best with the Daniel Defense 10" rail on my gun and it appears to have several very positive reviews.

Thanks for any comments---

A purpose built system is better than a conversion. The gas system lengths and port sizes should be different and you have to replace almost the whole upper anyway. Check out PWS, they are soft shooting because they are long stroke.

I put a Superlative Arms piston in a rifle length 6.8SPC build, and not only was the product great, they were great to work with, since the 6.8 version wasn't quite done at the time. For 5.56/223, it should be a no-brainer, and the ability to set the gas block to either limit or bleed makes it hard to not find a setting that will work.

My interest in a conversion is related to the fact that I've spent a good bit of cash on high end components for my DI upper. If I went to a purpose built upper I would not only lose that money but the components of the purpose built system many not be as high quality. But I see your point - if designed as a unit, it should be more reliable.

The Adams Arms piston system is a great direction to go. Been running there rifles since the beginning from there first stuff to there modern system. The company has gone through some hard times lately but appears they are back up to full speed. I think for a conversation you will be very happy.
