Suppressors AR-15 gas system question

I have decided that I want to buy a suppressor. The question is if my current setup can be suppressed or if I have to build a whole new upper. This is my current rifle with Vltor A5 installed Noveske RifleWorks, LLC.

can I replace the current gas block/ front sight with the adjustable version?:JP Rifles

I don't know anything about building suppressed systems and I have been doing a lot of reading, can someone tell me if I'm on the right track or is my idea no good? I would appreciate any feed back

You won't know until you run it with a can. It might run fine with your current setup but I would do a adjustable gas block and tune it to your load

I am going to order the JP adjustable gas block and AAC M4-2000 and run it as you suggested. Is there anything I should keep in mind? Any type of ammunition in specific 55,62,77 gr?

Lazy21 is right. Who knows what will happen with your rifle until you try it.

If you have the Vltor A5 system on your rifle already, A LOT of folks have had good luck with changing to the heavier buffers. There's a ton of info on m4c about it.

My 556RC should clear anytime now so I'm hoping to try this out first hand soon. I'm planning on trying my reloads (24.7 W844 & 55gr) with the H4 buffer. I have high hopes it'll work in both my 10.5 and 12.5 rifles. I also have a mid 14.5 to try it out with... It'll be fun if I can find a stinking buffer in stock...

The adjustable block seems to be the way to get it to run reliably without a ton of gas in your face. Have you checked out the Syrac block?

Yes I am familiar with the syrac block, I believe JP makes blocks for them or vice versa. I'm going to order the front sight post and get everything together, will post results. Thanks for the feedback if you guys come up with ideas please let me know I'm always open to suggestions.

My 2 cents use an adjustable gas block watch your brass for ejector/plunger marks I can always tell when some one doesn't have their rifle tuned up properly by those marks and then its a bitch to get that blown out case head sized down again. Just my observation... I think the larue gas block is a great choice too.

I have multiple AR's with cans and have never run an adjustable gas system. I do love the Vltor A5 though. I would not buy anything or change anything until you prove it doesnt work as you wish. I have SBR's and SPR's and everything oin the middle. If you buy a quality barrel, BCG and decent ammo, you should not have a problem.

Pappa, if you do ever get adj gas block. You're going to HATE yourself for not getting one sooner .

X2. The only trouble that I've had so far is with PMAGS. I have a factory Rock River 10.5" SBR that will not function reliably when using Gen2 pmags. The same PMags Works flawlessly without the suppressor. All other mags will work with the suppressor, including the Troy battlemags. Easy fix for me on this particular rifle. I just sold all my Pmags and switched to Troy.

The reason folks use adjustable gas isn't because you can't make the AR function without adjustable gas.

If your AR runs right without the silencer on then that means it will be somewhat overworked when the suppressor is on (unless something is altered). Some folks don't worry about it and that's ok really. I shoot a lot so I've set up two ARs with the WAR uppers to test hard. So far I am pleased.

Using something like the WAR upper reduces noise, keeps the guts a little cleaner and cooler for a little less wear and tear and easier clean up. That's not to say you have to use adjustable gas.



Some folks prefer staying away from more parts and I tend to agree with that line of thought. The WAR upper is the first adjustable gas system I've used that I recommend to others. Not beating on the other systems, but I tried two others and found small issues that made me not suggest them. One of the adjustable systems I tried was simply too difficult to change quickly and the other would have issues with grime keeping it from moving properly. The WAR upper has, so far, shown to work properly and is simple in design and use.
