i'm looking to replace stock trigger in my bushmaster, with something that has more feel then the supper heavy pull stock one. any advice is helpfull. hoping for someone with presonal experience with both single and two stage triggers to chime in. i don't know what is the better choice for me. mostly i shoot target (paper) and steel out to 400yards.

i have come to realize that most of my accurcy problems at rang are because of trigger pull being so heavy, i found this out from dry firing practice, watching scope move as trigger is loaded up, not cross hairs moving inside, but rifle moving.
please help.
thank you

feels like pull is more then ten pounds!

Re: ar-15 trigger on a budget?

For an AR-15 I would always go with a two stage trigger. A single stage is a tough trigger to make it a light weight of pull without a lot of creep and have it safe. With a 2 stage you can do the take up and hang on it until you want to relaes it, then break only the second stage. Hard to beat a two stage trigger and just about all the top match rifle shooters shooing AR based rifles use two stage triggers.

Geissele SSA trigger is great at about $170
Rock River makes a two stage match trigger that's a bit less.

Don't expect to get much below $125 for a decent AR-15 match trigger. Usually you get what you pay for.

Re: ar-15 trigger on a budget?

I hear you on the heavy trigger pull. I just replaced a factory DPMS with a Giessele. The difference is night and day. Just quessing, but the original DPMS was at least 7-8 lbs. It was heavy. The Giessele is just smooth as glass, even when set on the heavier poundage for the pull. It ain't cheap, but you get a great trigger. I also have some time behind the RRA 2 stage. I like it also. For a factory trigger, it is pretty good. By far better than any other factory trigger I have used. I have been thinking about purchasing one of the Timney drop ins. They have good reviews over at Midway USA. As for the 2 stage versus single stage, it seems to be a matter of preference.

but the price is steep...$279.00....if you can find them in stock....and most reviews including on here speak highly of them....all 5 star rattings....and was really a simple drop in if you know what your doing!!!

This leads me to believe you need to rebuild your position and analyze your trigger pull.

Unless you have a 18# trigger the problem is most likely a software issue.

What will change is that a lightweight trigger will allow you to pull the trigger faster using good form and not disturb the sight picture.

Re: ar-15 trigger on a budget?

I have a DPMS lr-308 that I was looking to replace the trigger on. Looked at several options, and ended up buying a RRA NM 2-stage trigger from another member here on the Hide.
It was new in the package, for $90 shipped. Easy install, and brought my group size down considerably. I haven't had it very long so I don't know about the long term reliability, but I know, so far, I'm very happy with it. Keep an eye on the for sale section and something will pop up.
