Hi to all , nice to be welcomed here. I love things that go boom accurately and I have my.own machine shop. I try to build one or two rifles or pistols each winter blues season, accurate ones especially. Just completed an ar in 300 hammer and I love it. I also have a 16.5 inch barrel for it in 300 blackout. So now the blackout barrel is a bit redundant. I also built a pistol ar in 7.62x39 10 inch barrel and to make matters worse, I live in NY where suppressors are illegal. (Yes my ar pistol is on my pistol permit). So now I am contemplating what to do with the 300 blackout barrel. I thought of going subsonic only, maybe even with some 250 grain hardcast lead, (gas port plugging?). But with no suppressor, is there any noise advantage? I could cut it down to 8 or 10 inches and recrown, and use it on my pistol platform. I have always dreamed of port drilling a 16 inch barrel starting at the 8 /10 inch mark a series of 1/8 inch holes spaced a half inch apart out to the muzzle say 16 holes to progressively relief the gas and subsequent noise....hmmm, would it do anything to the noise?. I posted this as i would love to hear comments and suggestions, including should I sell it ? Thanks
