hey guys, just a quick question. ive searched for it with no avail here.

i have a 20" v match upper with a 1:9 twist
and a dti 16" with a 1:9 twist as well.

question is does anyone have reccomendations for a good bullet to run for coyotes mainly and for consistent accuracy. thanks guys.

Re: ar barrel twist help

You might be able to spin the 69gr in the short barrel, or you may not... the longer barrel shouldn't be a problem at all.

My 1:8" will spin the 75 gr loads in a 20" barrel, but my 16" 1:9 twist keyholes them. I haven't tried the 69gr match kings in my carbine.

The longer barrel will sometimes make up for a slower spin if its right on the edge of being stabilized.

Re: ar barrel twist help

For critters the 60gr Vmax is worth looking at. I just went to the 69gr Nosler Custom Competition because you can buy them for $130/k and they shoot same as the SMK in my rifles. Seems like a good compromise between good quality and reasonable cost since you can buy them in bulk. They are fine in a 1/9 barrel. Never tried them on animals, but I bet they'd work fine.

Re: ar barrel twist help

I can't comment on the shorter barrel but I have a 20" 1in9 twist RRA Coyote that loves the 69gr SMKs. My groups tightened way up at a 100yds going from the 55gr rounds I broke the barrel in with to the 69gr SMKs. I went with the heavest round I thought I could get to stabilize because I wanted to stretch my .223 out to 300 and 500yds and so far I'm very satisfied with the 69gr SMKs.

Re: ar barrel twist help

If you are reloading try the Remington 62gr. Match hollow point bullets. They are real accurate with benchmark powder out of my 1-9 twist barrel and I never thought a Remington 62gr bullet would be that accurate out of that rifle but it is.

Natchez is the only place I could find them.
