I have a RRA AR with the Operator buttstock and I am looking to replace it with something that will give me a better cheekweld.

Since the Magpul PRS is now made of unobtanium, I was wondering what else was used and recommended by other AR shooters.

Yes, I could go look at AR15.com and ask, but don't like the signal to noise ratio over there.

If you want a PRS...they can be had with very little effort, including some being offered by Hide vendors within the last week. Just have a look through the PX, including the commercial sales areas.

As for "other" options...it depends on what features you want/need. If by a "better cheekweld" you mean that you need more comb height to get on your scope properly, then you've got the PRS, or you can go to any number of different collapsible stock setups and run a SAPR on it for adjustable comb options.

If you just need something (hell...ANYTHING) better than the RRA stock, then I'd say try your average, run-of-the-mill A2 or perhaps the Magpul MOE fixed rifle stock. If you need more height on your comb with one of those options, there are a variety of DIY options for stick on pads, etc.

I wouldn't go to AR15.com for anything. If you need to search another forum that is specific to the AR I would recommend m4carbine.net. You probably want to use the search button first as a few regulars will jump on a nube for asking questions. With that said that site does have a ton of information on ARs

I would say it depends on what you are wanting to do with it. If the PRS is really what you want then I would hold out. I have a PRS on my 308 AR and love it. All my .223 ARs have some sort of stock with an angled cheek piece. The ACS/ACS-L and STR are all much better than a "regular" stock to me. There are of course other options like that outside of magpul.

PRS is a lot heavier than a typical AR stock, but if you want the comb and length adjustment its a great option. The ACS or ACS-L are great and are on all my AR's. The are longer than most other stocks and that helps prevent the whiskers from getting caught...if that is an issue for you. Another thing to think about is your buffer tube. RRA are usually commerical diameter. If this is your only AR and you never plan to get another (yea right!), not a big deal. My 2 cents says you may want to think about changing to the mil-spec size now.

I have a CTR with the Battleline Industries SAPR on my OBR and I'm very happy with it. This combo has more features in my opinion than any off the shelf stock by itself. It's in the ballpark of the PRS on price (expensive).
