What magazines are liked for those experienced in the 6.5 Creedmoor?
This will be used for a hunting rig and I wonder if their is a 3-5 round option out there.
Aero upper and lower, Proof +2 24" Barrel, JP Internals and for now will run factory ammo.
    Thank you

Magpul limits you to about an absolute max OAL of 2.81-tops. ASC will let you go longer by .040+, at a fraction of the cost of KAC’s, and have proven reliable for me.

Yeah regular .308 Pmags are really short. Magpul had to make a special 25 rd. Pmag for M118LR which has a COAL of 2.82+.
I measured a Lancer L7 @ 2.84 and an ASC @ 2.86. I am pretty sure ASC is making Midway’s large frame AR mags.

KAC and Larue all day. 2.871" COAL. My optimal COAL for 6.5cm is in the 2.835-2.85 range depending on bullet. Others have used ASC but I have not in large frame gasser. I use ASC in my AR15's for COAL around 2.32 and they run great.

Pretty sure Larue has the max OAL available for the platform. Their mags are also top notch quality, and about half the price of KAC, though still pretty spendy by more common standards.

where are you getting Larue SR25 20rd mags for half the price of KAC? Larue are $80 vs $94 for KAC.

I have both. My KAC are the same COAL as my Larue at 2.871. I heard they can be as small as 2.865 up to 2.871.

Are any of these mags with longer OAL available in 3 or 5 round. My 6.5 will often, if not always, will be shot prone as it will be used as a hunting weapon.

Are you concerned about mag capacity limitations for hunting, or just length of the magazine?

If it's just length, plenty of us shoot prone with 20 round mags; once it's about the same length or slightly shorter than the grip it doesn't matter much, and going shorter doesn't seem to have any real benefit IMO. I think even a 10 round mag will just barely hang out of the receiver; anything with less capacity would have to be the same length but pinned. It's not like most bolt actions where 3 or 5 round mags are shorter than 10 round mags.

If it's a mag capacity legal issue for hunting, you might be able to get your mag of choice pinned. That varies by state though, and not an issue where I hunt so I haven't had to deal with it.

Well now... Guess it's been too long since I've priced them. KAC seems to have come down a bit and Larue gone up some.

When I shoot my GAP10 with the 20rd KAC magazines off the bipod, the pistol grip rests on the ground before the mag.

    DPMS 5rd magazines:

Thank you, I figured as much, however just considering the weight, but I could just run it with 3-5 rounds while hunting, and if the lower capacity aforementioned mags save me a couple bucks....better

A 5 round mag won't be any less expensive than a 10 round mag, as it will be a round limited 10 round mag. 10 round mags don't tend to be much less expensive than a 20 round mag- if any at all. However, 10 rounders "can" be more difficult to source. In a large frame AR, I doubt you will notice the difference in weight between 5 rounds in a 10 round mag and 5 rounds in a 20 round mag.

In regards to KAC SR25 mags, the 10rd and 20rd are the same price. A 5rd is just a blocked 10rd or 20rd magazine and are actually $30 MORE expensive. I run 10rd KAC's all the time, rarely grab my 20rd KAC mags. The 10rd barely hangs out of the magazine well, cant imagine using a 5rd..

Here are mags for a side-by-side comparison. You can see by the metal overlap that the DPMS is about .040" shorter than the KAC.
