I'm looking at setting up a .223 AR with an illuminated scope. The gun will be a general purpose "truck gun" somewhere near M4 length. I want to be able to use it up close if i need to and work out to 300 or 400 yards for target shooting and eliminating the odd brave coyote. I'm using a ruger .233 bolt gun now and want to get an autoloader to replace it.

Anyway the options I've found
ACOG 4x32
ACOG 6x48
Accupoint 1-4x24
Accupoint 3-9x40
Nightforce NXS

Apart from the 648 weighing 2.25lbs, fixed 6x, and intended for LMG's, i really like the adjustable brightness and large objective. The only downside to the accupoints i see is the lack of a chevron reticule. I've heard that people have had to tape part of the light-gathers on the ACOG's adjust the reticle brightness. The nxs and leupold MR/T seem very similar to the 1-4 accupoint.Anyway i'm looking for some opinions and suggestions.

Meopta K Dot- my choice above those that you have listed. Daylight visible illumination, repeatable adjustments, great FOV through the whole mag range, built for dangerous game so it is as solid as most anything short of a USO, it just doesn't have any CDI tacticool pedigree.

Here's a link to a 1-4 scope list

Make mine an Accupoint! Great scopes, clear glass, good tracking, hold zero well, the tip of the triangle is the optical center and is capable of great precision, plus the triangle is FAST, and no batteries!

The K-dot has a tiny little reticle that gets lost very easy if not illuminated, IMO. You will never lose the Accupoint triangle.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Accupoint 1-4x with Green Triangle reticle is awesome. Fast on target, precise at range. Lights up in all conditions I have used it.

Re: AR Scope Choice 0-400yds

Not trying to be arguementative but keep in mind that big triangle covers up a whole lot of target at 400.

I do like the TR 24 but it is still a first year scope. There have been some shooters with illumination issues so far. The dot or triangle is washing out in some lighting conditions.

acog 4x32. i have used the ta01nsn for the past 4 years, and it is perfect. targets fall all the way to 400 with ease and 600 gets tough sometimes. cant ask for more

What Scott said. Although (and "flame suit... ON!") I've got one AR equipped with a "cheap" Millet DMS-1 that seems to work pretty well for those same conditions (300-400, 'yotes).

Scott,
Being an IOR dealer do you have any opinions / experience with the Pitbull?

This little IOR 3x scope work's very nice out to around 400 yards, great glass. http://www.valdada.com/product/40e3b604-7044-4532-b71d-93037f0e8166.aspx
The ACOG 4x TA01 is great, but a little strong for CQB work for me. 30 yards to 500 it shine's! The Leupold Mark 4 1.5-5x SPR is pretty good, but in low light it's hard to see sometimes. And that shitty lit retical knob they use suck's.
Another little scope I like is the Elcan OS3x http://swfa.com/Elcan-SpecterOS-Optical-Sights-C82.aspx
It has one of the best reticals I'v ever used.
