Hi,
I just picked up a very nice Colt 6940 ( I feel it is, my first AR). I have been loading for my 9mm for some time but want to start .223. I have Win748, wolf 223 primers, 55g M1193 fmj-bt and oflc brass. I am looking for a good load just to get to know the gun. I plan to start with the starting load and work up but if anyone has a good load for what I have I would like to check it out when I reach that point. I am still new to working up a load plus shooting the gun is new to me.

Welcome aboard.

I'm loading 24.5gr W748 under Nosler 77gr BTHP. This is giving me 2645 fps from a 16" bbl.

With 55s, you will probably be able to load up to 26-27 gr for about 3000 fps from a 16" bbl.

Good info. I just inherited a keg of 748 and plan to use it for .223 ball when my 844 stash runs out.

I load my 55g fmjs with 25.5g of w748 it is the most accurate load in my pof 415 not too hot but shoots about 2moa with cheap armscor projos

I use 24.8 grains under a Hornady 55gr fmjbt w/c.
It is a light load that is easy on brass and is accurate in both of my ARs.

25.9-26.4 grains of Win 748 with 55 fmj's is a good range and safe in any temperature or any case. I use RP 7 1/2 primers.
