My groups on my Armalite AR10 nearly double in size when I shoot with the suppressor. I pulled the suppressor last night and noticed small copper flecks inside the suppressor. I can not see where its actually hitting any of the baffels.

My suppressor is a Gemtech HVT and after calling Gemtech they said that they have seen this before with factory threaded barrels. Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do to correct it???

Can the threads be cleaned up or do they have to cut and rethread the barrel??? Thanks Guys!!!!!!

When the can is on and you pull the bolt carrier and look threw the Port end do you see baffles or blue sky ?

Normally baffle strikes would be off target so I don't see it being that,But best to check.

what are you shooting threw it ? How does the brass look pressure wise Can on and Off.

Re: AR10 groups open up with the silencer on........

I have a GEMTECH HVT with a QD mount. I guess I was lucky and I have not have that issue with my DPMS SASS but what I would recommend is that you talk to Gemtech and see if you can send your upper with the suppressor to them and let them make sure it is all lined up. They can always cut and re-thread if need be. Since you are in South Dakota you are relatively close to them so it shouldn't take too long to get it back.

When I shoot the HVT on my SASS it tightens the groups up a tad but it does make a dirty mess.

ASM1,
I haven't taken it apart to check it yet but will do that. Its not actually "Hitting" a baffle in the true since of the word its probably just "Grazing" it. I don't think its going to be off enough to actually see with a naked eye. Gemtech said they have also found that sometimes the shoulder where the silencer sets is not square and can cause a problem. They also said that they use a lazer to check the alignment to the silencer and see if the threads are in tolerance or not.

I am shooting seveal differnt loads. I had some problems with a couple of loads building to much pressure in my AR10 and my bolt gun. They shot fine without the suppressor but would have stiff bolt opening with the bolt gun. I dropped a grain and this corrected the problem.

However on the AR10 no load shoots good with the silencer on it. I have shot several 5 shot groups at 400yds where 4 out of 5 are around 2"s but with the silencer on it I can't shoot that at 100yds. All the loads I am shooting should be well under max. I am using 175MKs with 41.5grs or RL15 and 43grs with 168s. So they are not hot loads by any means. Thanks for the thoughts!!

You will see if it is aligned with the naked Eye just look good and move your head around if its off you will start to notice it is to one side.

Grazing will leave a copper streak on the baffle or cap,You can shine alight in the back and front and look down the bore and every angle you can ,If there is a contact point you will see it.

threads,I cant help you with ?

Thanks guys!! I talked to Gemtech and they said to send the upper with the suppressor and they will check it out and correct any problem with either the gun or the suppressor.

I don't believe its the supperessor since its shooting great on my bolt gun. You can't ask anymore of a company that is willing to fix something that may not even be their problem.

My hats off to Gemtech and their customer service!!!!! Very nice people to deal with in my opinion!!

Re: AR10 groups open up with the silencer on........

I had a similar issue with a Walther P22 and Gemtech Outback.

Without the suppressor it was shooting great. With the suppressor it was shooting 9" left at 25 FEET.

Gemtech wanted the whole system. I sent both back and it turned out to be a VERY VERY light baffle strike due to the barrel shroud on the P22 cocking the adapter ever so slightly.

Gemtech corrected the runout on the shroud and set it back. All covered under warranty.

THAT is customer service as it should be and why I am seriously considering a Sandstorm for my bolt gun.
