Hunting & Fishing AR10 loads for hunting small to medium game

Re: AR10 loads for hunting small to medium game

If you're after whitetail, anything will work. I've got a buddy that uses the Winchester 150 grain power-point loads from Walmart in his Armalite on hogs and whitetail, and it works time after time.

Maybe a little more info from you would help narrow it down. What ranges would you be shooting, and what game specifically? Or are you asking what factory loads other people get good accuracy with in that particular rifle?

using a 16" LWRC REPR i've taken coyotes, hogs and whitetail with good success using 168grn AMAX Hornady TAP ammo. They did leave some pretty massive(golfball to baseball)sized exit wound on the coyotes though. If you like to keep the coats, the 168SMK have done a better job with clean kills and small holes in the 100-200 yard range.

Hands down, the best load I've used in 308 for whitetail deer has been the HSM-loaded 168gr Berger VLD. All dead in their tracks, all having enormous trauma in chest cavity; a good portion of the lung and heart tissue simply runs out of the deer when cleaning. Most have had great exit wounds, one or two have not had any exit wound, but internal trauma was of higher magnitude with those few.

It's expensive stuff, but used for deer hunting, you wouldn't use more than 3/4 of a box per year anyway. http://www.snipercentral.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=635.
