Putting together a suppressed 16" AR10 and am looking at scopes. Is the MK5 3.6-18 worth the extra $500 to $700 over the SHV F1? I don't anticipate to shoot further than 1k as I already have a MK 5 5-25 on a bolt gun for that. I love the MK5 but don't want to spend a pile of money on this rifle. The SHV seems like a great option with solid turrets and a used NXS would be a good middle of the road option cost wise. I anticipate dialing quite a bit and don't want to use the warranty on the scope no matter how good the warranty is (I think Leupold did the MK5 turrets right). Want to be mindful of weight but I realize I'll probably end up with a 30 oz +/- scope which I am fine with. Just don't want to throw a 45 oz Razor on there. Thoughts? Anything else I should consider?

The Mk5 is definitely worth the extra coin in my opinion over the SHV, just in features alone but that's not to say the SHV isn't a bad option but I guess it depends on what you're using it for. A used NXS (3-15x F1) is another great option that covers that gap nicely for the right price and weight. At the end of the day its about the right tool for the right job, the SHV can take you a long way depending on what you're using it for but at a certain point the Mk5 and NXS start to become better options.
What's a good price for an ATACR? If I was going to spend that much on a scope I would probably put it on a 300 mag or something that I will need the clarity for. I had an NXS 3.5-15 that I liked but I sold for th 5-25 so I could shoot a little further. I just can't justify that $ for a scope that will be used under 1k. I won't be shooting for .5 MOA or anything. I do want an ATACR someday tho
I have one of them and a 2.5-20 and the 2.5-20 would be the one to use. IMO
^ yes I agree the SHV scopes are nice. There's a f2 4-14 for like $800 in the for sale section. My buddy has a F1 4-14. Nice scope.
Still on the fence on the F1 or not. Is your buddy's F1 usable at 4-6 power? I know a few scopes I've had in the past had to get dialed up to almost mid power before the reticle was very usable. I would guess the illumination might help with this a bit.
ive got a 4-16x42 nf atacr f1 on a -10. great setup and certainly useable at all mags. new they are pricey, but they come up quite frequently in the for sale section at good prices. i got mine there - in fact i bought it damaged. seller sent itin to nf in my name and nf warrantied the repair and have never had a problem. was a good score for sure.
i cant remember. it was some time ago when they were still fairly new. but it was on SH so it may be searchable. edit - i looked through my old posts and pms and cant find it. may be because of the switches back and forth between platforms.

Dug out a old picture of my ATACR 4-16F1. On my AR15 though. My AR10 sports a different scope. But I really like this ATACR. Never gonna get rid of it. Perfect amount of magnification range for my needs. And if you’re into glass quality, honestly, it gives my tt 3-15p a run for its money.
I think they are great scopes but they are 45 oz (half again as heavy as heavy as the others). If I didn't care about weight I think a Razor would be awesome. I almost got one for my 6 Creed (didn't care about weight as much) but ended up with a Mark 5.
That's an awesome setup for sure. I've thought about an RMR or Ampoint Micro on top of 45 deg offset. Honestly, how much do you use the RMR? In my mind the 4x would be good for quick shots past 50 yds. Closer than that, and I have shot shotguns enough that I am confident in "feeling the shot" or whatever. Actually smoked a doe running at 15 yds last fall with a 45/70 and a scope that way. But if you find yourself using the dot fairly often it's something I would consider, especially on a gas gun.
As for the used NXS F1, I really do like that option. The F1 I had before tunneled a little more than I liked at 3.5-5x. I pretty much set it on 5x and left it because I wasn't getting any larger field of view going lower. Do the ATACRs have the same issue?
The big bonus for me on the NXS is the HS/ZS which will bring the price up a fair amount more than the SHV with the same features. The SHV just isn't bombproof which on this rifle is probably ok.

Scope mounts is one of the most over looked at as far as importance. It what’s keep your zero. Without any effect to recoil and transport. If one needs full confidence on their scope, get a reliable mount. Like a Spuhr..

I've got a couple of NF and one MKV. I used to think I loved NF glass but since shooting that MKV, holy cow, no comparison. The caveat, I'm 51 and the eyes are average. I'm no scope expert but would also suspect that everyone has a scope that suits them best.
Those of you recommending/posting pictures of you NF scopes... do you find that you get better clarity or tracking by leaving the QC stickers on your optics?
That being said, can’t go wrong with an NXS F1...as long as you take the QC Sticker off.
I always love the comments about NF QC stickers.
I have a 4-16x50 on mine and do love it. I like it so much it comes off my AR10 and onto my PRS gun, then my AR15 and then whatever else.
It’s all about the pride that NF puts into their scopes. All the way down to the finish line of the QC person that thoroughly checks each scope, signed, approved. And if you ever decide to sell it to someone who knows his/hers shit about sales and marketing? And doesn’t see that QC sticker? They’ll think you got the scope from a non-authorized NF retailer, and that it’s a refurbished one. Refurbished ones does not get the QC stickers. And yea, always check manufacturers website to see if where ever you buy something online or locally, that it’s listed as authorized dealer/retailer.. I would not suggest peeling off that QC sticker. Anyone wants to buy a used NF scope? The QC sticker makes a huge difference in the scope's optical clarity. If you remove it, the entire image grows very dim.

...you realize they peel off and you can put them in the box....and reapply if you resell.
It’s just funny to see them on scopes but it makes sense...leaving Scope QC stickers on is the same as never bending the brim of a hat and leaving the sticker on there as well.
It’s just as bad as seeing the red rubber turret cap being left on.

NF NXS F1 if the OP wants to cut down on money spent or just go with a 4-16 ATACR F1 if he wants to ball. If he buys new he’s guaranteed that QC sticker so that’s a plus.

I see you also use the key sticking out of the elevation turret. I do this too, helps me identify the shot direction and redirect wind.

I ditched the SHV because of FOV is tiny. The Tract is even smaller FOV than SHV.

they went to more conventional allen bolt fasteners for the ring tops, whereas the one pictured has studs in the lower mount and the top of the rings are fastened onto those studs with allen keyed nuts.
since i run prefer to run the charging handle on the left, i replaced that recently with a dual lever Scar mount (from bobro) with the levers on the right side (and not extended, which isn't needed on a monolithic rail). this gives more clearance to run the charging handle (the lever side is at least .5" wider).
i bought the scar, mount and scope as a package (unfired) from somebody that needed money for his engagement.
maybe he planned to run the charging handle on the right side.
if you know anyone that wants an extended QD mount for a 35mm tube scope, i will sell it at a reasonable price.
i am not sure if it is appropriate to say more outside of the marketplace, so you can pm me if interested.
they do make some of the better QD mounts for holding zero. i have seen a few comparisons where they are at the top.
