AR15 caliber choices

So I built a grendel and am now wondering what calibers can be built on that platform? I'm still thinking intermediate and will rely on my bolt guns to go way out there. Really thinking 6 to 800yds at best. Maybe 300 or 270 short mag or something. Of course I'm aware of the docomo, beowolf, 6.8, and other more common stuff. Thanks

6.8 (6.8 is not as short range as the big bore options) and Beowulf are short range stuff. all the big bore stuff and really 250 yard and in weapons.

Just how much wild catting are you wanting to jump into here?

223, 243, 25 WSSM cartridges are available in the AR15.

If you want to stay in the midrange (out to 800 or so yards), stick with the Grendel.

The grendel isn't going anywhere, but I am curious what other calibers that would be similar to the grendel can be built in an AR platform. I'm just thinking about expanding the safe contens with more "precision" gas guns. Thats all.

Can a 243 be built in an AR15 platform. I thought it would have to be in the AR10. Maybe I should have specified in the OP, but I'd like to stay in the AR15 platform. I know some AR10's that I can get ahold of to play with, but I don't want to spend the money on one, unless I could build it in 6.5X47 Lapua!

all the ones I listed are the WSSM series. a standard 243 would need to be in a 308 platform.

I have read that the 204 Ruger is a very accurate and flat shooting round. It's a necked down .223 that uses the same bolt and magazines as the AR-15. The 6x45 might also be an option although I have not read much about this round.

Go with the 20 Tac if you want an AR as they reportedly feed more reliably than the 204 Ruger because of the shoulder angle.

But that isn't really an 800 yard round. It's more like a 600 yard round.

I'll bet it can get out there, but those small bullets will get slayed by the wind.

It's a great coyote gun out to 500 or so, and the ballistics rule.

I have a 20 Tac in a nice single shot Cooper and it's a great round.
