Hey guys, this is a quick one,

For anyone who may know, can I get away with using "low" ARC M10 34mm rings when using a Vortex Gen 2 (with sunshade + lens caps)? I'm using a 20moa base over a medium palma barrel.

ARC M10 Low rings are .94 inches I believe, and mediums are 1.10 inches.

And if low will work, is there any reason to go higher than "low"?

I use mediums with my 56 objective scopes. With Adamount caps I have just a little over 1/8" clearance on heavy Palmas and M24/40 barrels. I believe that with adjustable combs, ring height is not as critical as it was years ago with the fixed, non-adjustable stocks, within reason of course.

Edited for BobinNC: I believe I mentioned in my post that the scope I gave measurements for is a 56mm objective. This would mean if I were answering the OP's question regarding his scope, I would be referring to a Gen 2 Razor 4.5-27x56, sorry if this wasn't clear. You are correct though in that I failed to specifically mention my measurement of 1/8" with Adamount caps is with the sunshade installed. With this said, I also have a couple of Nightforce NXSs with 56mm objectives and sunshades and scope covers that use the same medium ring in a 30mm tube size and provide the same 1/8" clearance.

I love how every one has an opinion on what ARC rings to use with a Vortex Gen II, without telling us which Gen II they or you are using (3-18x50mm or 4.5-27x56mm) ; nor which base they have, nor what rifle the whole mess is mounted on...

And yes, it does make a difference.....Also the use of scope covers add an additional 0.08" that must be accounted for if your planning on using them.

Thanks for the input fellas!
Interesting though, because with 1/8th inches of clearance over a heavy palma barrel (about .125 inches) i wonder if using a medium palma would increase the clearance the additional .04 inches needed to fit a Low ring set. Huh...
I prefer low when i can but if i have to go mediums i wouldnt mind. I may try both lol.

4.5-27x56 on a custom 6.5x47 Lapua with a Marksman contour Barrel and a 20 MOA Bighorn scope base.. Also has vortex defender caps and I stayed at a holiday inn express last night....

On a Tikka action with 20moa EGW base and Bartlein Heavy Palma, a 4.5-27x56mm will be too close with ARC lows. I could see light between scope bell and barrel but could not squeeze a sheet of paper thru. Went ARC medium and it's perfect with Defenders, even leaving me a bit of room to slide a Game Changer strap underneath, if you're into that sort of thing.

I just mounted a pair of LOW ARC 34mm rings on my SPR with a 20 MOA base and a Kahles 6-24x56 and I have just enough room for the lens cover

Stack coins on top of your rail and lay the scope gently on top. keep stacking pennies until you get the right clearance on your rifle. then do the math based on a 30mm or 34mm tube diameter.

I'd like to use this combo, except i have a 30moa base and RazorII 4.5-27x56mm. Has anyone tried this? will it fit?
