Are Browning abolt original and Abolt 2 barrels interchangable?

Disclaimer- never worked on one.
What I can offer is that the original A-Bolts were made only up until 1994, long before production rifles were achieving the types of tolerances they do today. I suspect a "barrel swap" would be a crapshoot to headspace within tolerances, even IF the tenon specs for the two were identical. JMO

Yes, the original abolt I have was purchased in '92. It has been an excellent rifle for Eastern whitetail and hogs but after so many years the barrel is shot out. Same with my Sako, barrel is about gone.

However, it seems the upgraded Abolt 2 improvements are minor and it is hard for me to believe they changed the machining of barrels between models. I have another Abolt original that I just had rebarreled by a custom brand and has cost me 900.00. Would like to half that if possible by using an abolt 2 barrel. However information has been hard to come by.

Talk to the Smith that did the rebarrel, he can probably tell you what the tenon is on the original A-Bolt, then you just need to find out what the 2 or 3 is

I know that a guy on another forum had these guys rebarrel a Browning for him, they can probably tell you right quick.

Kevin Weaver Rifles

I know when the barrel finally goes in one of the X-Bolt rifles I have had since 2008 or 2009, I am going to talk to them about a Remage style barrel for it.

Edited to add the link I forgot yesterday

Looking for a cheaper way to rebarrel a Browning abolt original. Are the 1 and 2 barrels interchangeable? Thanks!
Pretty sure AB1 and AB2 use same metric barrel threads. AB3 does not, if I remember correctly.

I had my old A-Bolt II Rebarreled by a local smith when the barrel crapped out in it. Shoots 1/4-1/3 MOA with handloads.

Interesting...doesn't specify I or 2 so probably the same tenon specs. Even if the magnum isn't what you're looking for, you should call Dan there and talk to him about what you want. Often their prefits are fully chambered but short-shouldered, so confirm whether a smith is still needed to headspace.
Dan Wynn (or Winn, however the fuck he spells it) doesn't work for McGowan anymore. I was told this by someone else who works for a sister company of McGowan (they're both owned by the same corp). Said his health got bad, so he finally retired. Thank God. I might actually do business with McGowan once again knowing that he's gone. He was a bull-clap infected prick. LOL

I only ever had one problem, and that was with a custom contour blank. I gave a precise narrative on the dimensions wanted in the email order, and what I received was fucked up- anyone including the machinist turning it should have questioned it because it literally made no sense at all as a barrel blank. Called him and basically said WTF? Argued back and forth a bit and he told me to send it back and they'd re-do if I provided a print which I did (and any customs after that).

I was placing an order for some blanks once and mentioned one of them was for a rifle I was building for my son as a Xmas present- he expedited it (had it in 2 weeks) and gave me an additional discount beyond the usual FFL pricing.

Been well over a year I think since I ordered a blank from them, didn't know he wasn't there anymore.
