The first thing out of my mouth when I saw the news of the attack was, "Wonder if she still hates America now?" The others around me didn't seem to remember what I was referring to until I reminded them of the donut shop incident. But to be fair, I think she said that the same way that kids that age also say "I hate my mom," when she won't let her wear an outfit that is too revealing, etc. She was really referring to our culture of eating unhealthy foods and the obesity problem. I've seen her on talk shows before and, politics aside, she seems to be pretty sharp. I think, in truth, she probably loves America, but like most kids her age, takes it for granted. An incident like this is a good lesson in being careful not to do that. It will be interesting to see if her opinion evolves.
On the other hand, she is in a business where the more Left you are, the farther you can go, so maybe not.

It seems that each generation in the past met with such a realization stepped up.

Our volunteer military isolates the general population from national use of force issues. I don't know what it will take to engage the general population seeing as a picture of the revised New York skyline doesn't seem to do it. Than again the Ariana Grande generation doesn't know what the Twin Towers were and the "falling man" photo to them is just that a photo.
I don't think this is the event that engages the "Kumbaya" crowd but I think it will make them say "Wait a minute...." when they hear their politicians say we need to accept this violence as the "new norm".

Any legitimacy, excusability, justification for this one is ludicrous. Targeting a concert widely expected to draw a largely teen and pre-teen crowd is an atrocity, a crime against humanity. This is waging war against children.
If this had happened in Israel, the retribution teams would already be taking scalps. I expect our own clandestine teams are already framing their responses; or at least I sure hope they are.
None of those losers have any expectations of conveying a credible message. They are after something that is actually pretty insidious. They are deliberately aiming to eliminate the worldwide perception of a distinction between peaceful muslims and militant muslims. They are goading the West to ultimate anger at all muslims. They hope the West will lash out indiscriminately against all muslims. This is their intended aim, to convey to even the peaceful muslims that the West is united against all islam, providing a logical basis for all islam to unite against the West.
I think they could succeed. I think so because of the general apathy against terrorism held by so may of the nominally peaceful muslims. If the terrorists succeed in this strategy, it will be at least partly because peaceful islam isn't so peace loving after all.
