Thanks, I already own an older LMT 308 MWS which I love. Use it for most of my deer hunting. Couldn't justify spending that much money on another AR10 and was looking at the PSA PA10 but figured the Armalite at $1300 might be the way to go. My max budget for this rifle is $1500. Knowing that the accuracy of the Armalite is really good makes it a great choice for me. I don't shoot custom handloads, just regular factory ammo purchased from the local sporting goods stores.

I was looking at the 16" version but for $300 less I can get the 14" with the muzzle pin and welded. At some point I'd be looking to run a suppressor on it which means I'd have to remove the pin and weld and have a new muzzle device installed. Not sure what the cost would be to remove and install a new one is.

Armalite makes a fine LFAR.

I do worry about parts availability in the future. Since Armalite doesn't sell those spare parts on their webpage anymore... but use a 2nd party webpage with limited availability.
That said, I am a spare parts nut.
I feel the same about spare parts but to date I haven’t broken anything. I did buy a field repair kit but that’s about it.

I have an armalite and for this very reason and the headaches I have had reaching out to obtain parts I dont think I would buy another one.

I'm debating between the 14.5", 16" and 18". I do plan on running a can later down the road. Won't be shooting past 300 yards with it. Most likely will be under 200 yard 98% of the time on hogs. Based on this which would you fellas recommend?
The 18” has a rifle length gas system, I think the others are shorter.

The shorter ones will be easier to handle depending on your context.

16”ers are mid length gas systems and as far as I’m concerned the Armalite large frame guns are the best value for the money in lower priced rifles. They have a few features many others don’t, but still have parts commonality with them. Barrels are consumable, but I doubt you’ll ever shoot it out. As far as the rest, don’t worry about it, Armalite is the first large frame DI AR and always will be…. I think 🧐

I decided on the 18”. Since I already have a 16” AR10. I’ll report back when I get some time behind it.

You chose wisely, I’d start off buying a field repair kit and an extra bolt catch or two. I’ve yet to brake any parts on my rifles after burning out two barrels but it’s always nice to have. You should be able to buy them from everygunpart.com

The only thing I’ve seen on ArmaLite Inc. rifles break is the bolt catch on a suppressed rifle in Finland in the extreme cold. It was a custom-made 26” barrel in 6.5x284 that SAKO barrel makers made for my friend, hammer-forged too. It caused some excessive carrier velocity so that the Bolt slammed into the bolt catch extra-hard on LRBHO.

KAC suffered the same failures back then too shooting suppressed. It’s a hard nut to crack because if you increase the catch metallurgy to be stronger, it can start peening the bolt face edges on the bottom lugs.

The ArmaLite small parts are better than any of the modern cheap imitation guns built on parts sets with outsourced barrels and trash small parts, trash BCGs.

ArmaLite Inc. had the best bolt carrier group design for a long time with the sprung firing pin, quality carrier, nicely-machined and tested bolts, great extractors, and great small parts. Aero made their receivers for them, which is Aero’s specialty.

ArmaLite Inc. also had really good barrels.

My first AR-10 was a 24” chromoly barrel that shot so well that it was unbelievable, especially with FGMM.

I’ve seen guys run the 16” AR-10s through multi-day CQM courses in the extreme cold without issue. Not many large frame guns can make it through a nice day CQM course, let alone the cold.

I’m pretty excited about it. Going to be on my rotation for hog hunting. Been using my 6.8 SPC which has been great.
