Hey just picked up an Armalite AR10. Now this isn't the off the shelf rifle it has what seems to be a 20" NM barrel in crome molly "no flash hider and not threaded .740 at muzzle". It came with the Armalite quad rail and 3 rail covers, an MI low profile Gas Block, 2 stage Tactical trigger, and a set of Leupolds ultra High Mk4 30mm rings...All for $1350 bucks...NEW. I am retarded happy, like little kid happy. Anyways I bought some ammo at the shop and brought along some Handloads that I had made up for my Remy 5R milspec to shoot for fun-ction. To make this short It Ate Them Up. I ran Fed. 150gr soft points to my 168-175gr hand loads to a few rounds of American Eagle M1A 168gr Match. This thing is Awesome "yes its my first AR10" and I got a great deal I think. Now I got home grabbed the M-pro7 copper cleaner and went to work, there was a Lot of copper in the bore more at the muzzle after the gas block. Anyways I am going to shoot today and break it in any tricks I might need to know as for the break in. The M-pro7 copper cleaner is Awesome and I bought some of the M-pro7 LPX gun oil and lubed up the insides as it was bone dry. Has anyone used the LPX gun oil? This is long sorry. Thank for replies.

Just go out and shoot it, when it gets dirty and your groups start to change clean the barrel but keep your bolt and bore clean as needed. Plus what makes your trigger tactical? LOL

Lonewolf -

for a professional barrel break in - is it best wait 10 sec. after the first round, then 2 seconds for each of the follow-ups?

just want to make sure I get it dun rite.

those are some good vids. gotta wonder how many have followed the 2nd guys procedure. those you tubers'

Re: Armalite AR10/Break In

If the barrel isn't chrome lined, it's either an aftermarket barrel, or most likely an Eagle Arms. Armalite had a run of their Eagle Arms 20" uppers with the ALOSTYR rails a while back (which, for a drop in rail, is really nice). It was a great deal for a complete upper, and sounds just like what you have. I don't know of any Armalite "National Match" barrels in 7.62, but I guess it's possible. Armalite T barrels are .875 at the gas block, .800 at the muzzle.
Shoot it like you stole it. Keep the BCG well lubed. It should neat up just about anything you throw at it for ammo.

"Tactical" two stage is what Armalite calls their standard two stage trigger, the National Match two stage has a longer first stasge pull, short, lighter second stsge pull. Both are adjustable.

Re: Armalite AR10/Break In

OMG!!!!! this thing is a hammer. Some handloads I had in 175gr fist and second at 100 touching, then I get excited and throw the 3rd but not by much. At 200 175s same thing the damn hole overlap then the 3rd right next to them. I shot 5 rounds cleaned really good and did this a couple times before running 10 rounds of the American Eagle Match M1A through it and 3 rounds one hole. Nocked the hell out of my steal out to 300yds "more range later after I get my Super Sniper 3x9". I had a cheapy wally world scope and rings on it and I think it was walking on me a little with recoil. Oh man I ran two boxes of Federal 150sp wally world deer loads through it and they were all with in 1.5". Wind was 7to1oclock @ 5-10mph all day no humidity and 63F. Anyways can't wait to get my scope and a no wind zero and really see what it will do. And I plan on just running my 175gr handloads untill time to hunt. Oh yeah NOT ONE malfunction or failer to feed with brass in Fed,Win,LC with my hand loads for my bolt gun. I'm In Love.

Yep..Thanks for that clearification Steelcomp. And the trigger isn't that bad a little creep of the second stage but I forgot about it after shooting a while. Oh and I think your right on the upper its running a .750 gas block and not threaded for anything. And the rail is really nice. I will try to get picks up tomarrow.

Re: Armalite AR10/Break In

Congrats on the Hamma. I am selling my first AR-10 today a complete Armalite rifle 16" carbine. Just do not shoot that one much after I got my Noveske 21" upper. I put together another lower and am DEFENATELY keeping that stick. An Armalite lower / Noveske upper like yours it is a shooter. I love that gun. The AR-10 is BAD AZZ for sure. My buddy borrowed it this year to go deer hunting in TX. I loaded him up some 150 Accubonds and he made a head shot on the frist hunt about 30min in the blind. They are effective
