Armalite Super SASS does anyone shoot one in comp

Re: Armalite Super SASS does anyone shoot one in comp

I have one also. So far it has been all that I have asked for! I haven't decided on what optics I will end up with; for now I have a Nikon Monarch.
I use Federal GMM 168grn. I haven't had it long enough to work out the best load yet I will be hand loading for it soon and then I will know just how good this thing can shoot.

I have one, NF 3.5X15 F1 MLR/MIL i love it, use it mainly as yote gun, quick follow ups etc, (hopefully no need for follow up but ya) I have run BH 168, M118LR, Remington Premier Match 168 runs great for me. Which is nice because its nicely priced

A friend/customer gave me a USO ST 10 I think it is called. Great scope and I just mounted and sighted in with it. I think it is a good match for the rifle but have been considering purchasing a more powerfull USO or Nightforce for it. It is good to know some more people have the same experiance with their SASS as I do. My gun is an easey 1/4 minute rifle on demand with m119lr or my load. I plan to use it for my Montana trip this year on P dogs ...post some photos of your kit if you can. I am not sure how to do it but will try later.

Good Shooting

1/4 minute on demand, factory? Wow, you're a lucky man. I own several Armalites, none of them even close to that. Custom builders and benchresters wont even guarantee that. I would ask for your special load but you say it does it with factory fodder too so.........guess I just have shitty rifles....along with everyone else I know and shoot with.

The unemployment in this country is bad enough as it is, now
Armalite is going to put all the custom AR builders out of business on top of it.

Gotta love it.

A friend gave you a USO ST 10 - wow what a friend that you have. I need some friends like that. I have to call you on the 1/4 MOA bit. I have NEVER seen a gas gun shoot 1/4 MOA so I need some pics of this. You are telling me that you can shoot a 1.25 inch spread at 500 and a 2.5 inch spread at 1000. That I would love to see as you would now become the national champion for long range shooting. I have a GAP SASS and I can at best shoot 3/4 MOA on good days. In the hands of a better shooter they may get some 1/2 MOA's out it but that is stretching it too.

Re: Armalite Super SASS does anyone shoot one in comp

I had a Armalite SASS that was pretty good. Mine was a reasonable 3/4 MOA shooter like most are saying on here. Only problem i ever had with it was that it would ocassionally delay stripping the round out of the mag and would push the projo into the case and basically make a useless round. If you are profficent in driving a gas gun you can get it to a 1/2 MOA shooter most of the time. But to the 1/4 MOA claim and given a USO ST10 ill be nice about it and call it bullshit

Re: Armalite Super SASS does anyone shoot one in comp

deadly, did you try bending the feed lips up a bit on your mags? Sorry if thats such a simple suggestion it annoys you but I dont know your experience. Seems like most mags need a little adjusting to me.

Re: Armalite Super SASS does anyone shoot one in comp

I got rid of the gun a long ago. I just dont have much love for gassers anymore. It wasnt that huge of a deal to me. All the problems i had out of that were with the Gen 1 mags i believe

Re: Armalite Super SASS does anyone shoot one in comp

That's strange, the SASS should have shipped with Gen2 mags unless it went to a state like NY which still has it's own AWB.

Re: Armalite Super SASS does anyone shoot one in comp

Badshot, im sure that it did, i had a ton of Gen 1 mags, and had SN# 10 or something like that from their first run of the SASS. So its not that Armalite messed that one up, i just had a bunch of spares around

Re: Armalite Super SASS does anyone shoot one in comp

OK, that makes sense. One of the first run of the SASS with the solid fake surpressors showed up at a large gun shop near me and it had the Gen2 mags with it. I believe they had to put those mags in their "LEO only" case as those aren't legal for civilians in this liberal BS state. I have a bunch of those early Gen1 mags from around 2000, and they had the problem too of causing the rounds to nose-dive and jam into the lower part of the barrel extension below the feed ramp. Mine seem to feed OK as long as I don't fully load them to 20 rounds. Armalite still has the update program which includes upgrading the receiver/barrel to M4 feed ramps. I still haven't sent mine in yet.

Re: Armalite Super SASS does anyone shoot one in comp

1911, be careful how you state things here. There are some realist, that will call anyone on anything.

Once, and only once, I and my 10T put 8 of ten under a .25 cent piece. Notice as I explain this, I did not say 8 of 10 under a quarter, less someone call me a liar for implying a 1/4" 8 round group. By the way, the wind was at my six, so maybe that wasn't so spectacular. Sometimes, it's not what you say, but how you say it.

Accurate descriptions notwithsatanding, I wonder about the size of a group descriped as a bughole? I visualize that as 1/4" group, but most of those claims are from a bolt gun, built by the "gun-god."

Keep smiling and keep posting.
